This template should only be used on category pages.

Currently, this category is used largely synonymous with Category:Weather. Also some overlap with Category:Atmosphere. How about the following structure:

This plan is flatter and it avoids the need to eventually add categories such as Category:Climatology concepts. (There would be a big overlap.) But would it be accurate enough?

If one were to merge all the "science of" categories into the "subject" categories, you'd end up with something like this:
