[edit] Created article
I created this page to capture all Messianic Jewish theology that was bloating on Messianic Judaism in an attempt to reduce the page size for the mother article. Please continue expanding Messianic Jewish theology as it now has its own dedicated page. inigmatus 22:16, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'd recommend the addition of a section describing the differences and similarities between Messianic Jewish theology and Christian theology. The article presently seems to suggest both that a) Messianic Judaism is different than Christianity and b) some groups of Messianic Jews hold the same beliefs as some groups of Protestant Christians. These can't both be (strictly) true, so could someone clarify please? --Tim4christ17 talk 10:27, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- Good idea. I'll stub it for now. ⇔ ChristTrekker 17:29, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Time to merge from Messianic Judaism
The theology section in the main article is way too long. -- Avi 19:45, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed! IMHO, any section that references a main article ought to be summarized in about 4 brief paragraphs at most. A "30,000 foot view" should be possible in 12 sentences. ⇔ ChristTrekker 23:11, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed. That is why this article was created. inigmatus 02:39, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- I took a stab at it. It's still not real short, but it was a huge section to start with. I don't know that it could be reduced much more and still say anything significant about all the points. I also cleaned up this page, as the hierarchy seemed jumbled. ⇔ ChristTrekker 16:51, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- It's beautiful! Feel free to update the project task list. :) inigmatus 17:21, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Two House & Grafted In Theology
Katurahariel made significant changes in The People of God section, merging Two House Theology and One-Law & Grafted In Theology subsections into one. Could someone who is more informed in this area please review? It is my understanding that these two views are not as compatible as the article now reflects. If there are differing views regarding that compatibility, the "compability view" should presented as a fifth option. In any event, this section has been "fact"-flagged, so references should be provided. I tried looking on the websites of a couple of the orgs, but couldn't find anything addressing this. ⇔ ChristTrekker 20:37, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Lack of mainstream references
I used to contribute a lot to the Messianic Judaism and related articles until I got disgusted with all the non-messianics constantly hacking up things that did not agree with their religion's view and just totally gave up on contributing to Wikipedia. (Which is a shame, because I have put together a lot of sites and studied MJ extensively and I attend one of the leading congregations, Baruch HaShem in Dallas.)
My main comment about this entire article is that it does not cite any of the "heavyweight" MJ theologians such as David H. Stern, Daniel Juster, Arnold Fruchtenbaum, Michael L. Brown, Jeffrey Seif or John J. Fischer. By "cite", I do not mean it doesn't name them, I mean it doesn't quote them or refer to specific texts to support any statement. Who the heck is Joshua Isaac Walters? I have never seen his name mentioned anywhere in Messianic circles. (I don't read scholarly journals.)
By the way, check out Rabbi Dr. Carol Harris-Shapiro's book Messianic Judaism. Although she is a Reconstructionist, it is the single best book I have ever read about Messianic Judaism, including a pretty good explanation of the theology. The two main complaints I have about it are that (1) occasionally she draws undeserved slightly nefarious inferences from events that occur in any large organization (she gives an example of someone who disagreed with congregation leadership on some point and the person seemed concerned about having others find that out) and (2) in a few instances she mentions the atypical beliefs/opinions of individuals who are neither congregational nor MJ leaders. But there are only a handful of those things in the book. Rick Reinckens 24.155.64.132 (talk) 04:36, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
