Mesut Özil (born October 15, 1988) is a young German footballer of Turkish decent who is currently playing for SV Werder Bremen. He is a midfielder and wears 11 as his squad number. He has been called up to the German U21 National Team after starting as playmaker and central attacking midfielder in the place of the suspended Lincoln in Ligapokal matches against Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich for Schalke 04.[1]
Mesut has declared that he is a Fenerbahçe fan and that he might play for Fenerbahçe SK one day. [2]
On January 31, 2008 he moved to SV Werder Bremen.
