Mesa Ridge High School is a school in Widefield School District 3, a school district in El Paso County, Colorado. The school is zoned to receive students from Fountain, Colorado, and the Colorado Springs suburbs of Security and Widefield. Mesa Ridge opened in 1997. The first graduating class commenced in 1999. Mesa Ridge is the newest of three high schools in the district, after Widefield High School and Discovery High School.

Mesa Ridge's JROTC is one of the top units in Area 9, frequently placing first.[citation needed]

[edit] Sports

Due to defacing of this page, there is no longer an accurate section on sports. During the 2006-2007 school year, Mesa Ridge's varsity football team participated in the Colorado state playoffs for the first time. Though success was not pervasive for its athletic teams in past years, improvement has been apparent in many of the sports, particularly football.

[edit] Marching Band/Concert Band/Jazz Band

Though this section of the Mesa Ridge High School page has been defaced, work is in progress to restore achievements. Some achievements are as follows:

-The Mesa Ridge High School marching band went to the state marching championship finals in 2006 and placed seventh overall. This was the first time the band participated in finals. It was the third time the band participated in quarterfinals.

-The Pride Of Mesa Ridge marching band also went to state marching championships in 2007 and placed sixth overall. This was the second time the band had participated in finals at the state championships and the first time placing sixth in state. For the second consecutive year in a row, Mesa Ridge placed first in the quarter-finals competition, however, Fountain-Fort Carson, their rival school, received a higher place at regionals and were seeded into semi-finals.


-The Mesa Ridge High School chamber winds concert group has been invited to numerous events and competed out of state in 2006 at Sea World in San Antonio, Texas. The also went on to perfor in Dallas during '08, recieving superior ratings.

-The Mesa Ridge High School winter guard placed second in the state championship in their division in February, 2007.

-The jazz band has also earned its stripes among the state. Attend such festivals as the High Plains Jazz Fest, Airforce Academy Jazz Comp. The jazz band contiues to set the standard high .

Mesa Ridge High School can be noted to include many clubs, organizations and activities. Miscellaneous activities and their achievements are as follows:

-The student cabinet has been recognized as a community entity, serving through methods such as the Drive Smart campaign. The sponsor for student cabinet is Dave Adams.

-The community of caring group frequently assists in community matters.

-The speech and debate team has had many distinguished competitors throughout the short span of the school's history. Coach Bob Goycoolea is a distinguished coach in the National Forensics League.

-The mathematics club has had distinguished achievements in the past, including a first place finish in the 2005 Colorado State University-Pueblo mathematics competition, and beat their rivalry school Fountain Fort Carson
