Brief Club History

The Meraloma Club is an amateur athletic organization founded in 1923 by Bill Edwards and 11 other swimmers from the local Kitsilano area of Vancouver, Canada. They initially called their club the Mermaids. Canadian Football, Rugby Football and various sports soon followed. As the club grew to include sports other than swimming, the members developed a new name keeping the original "Mer", and adding "al"pha and "om"ega, the first and last letters of the the Greek alphabet, and ending with an "a" for "Always" symbolizing the club motto "Once a Meraloma Always a Meraloma". The club even developed their own songs. For several years in the late 1920's and early '30's a women's swim team was part of the club. Women's sports returned to the club in 1973 after a 45 year absence, at first in the form of field-hockey and eventually, soccer, basketball, volleyball and touch football. The club currently has 350 active male and female members and 100 associates in 6 sport sections.

In 1978, Eric Whitehead, former sports writer for the Vancouver Province Newspaper wrote: "Speaking from my experience... I know of no other organization that so epitomizes the special spirit and character of a community that has produced a far greater pro-rata share of outstanding athletes of national and international calibre than any other area in the nation. Now, in these times of change, with all the swing back to participation sport at all age levels, the Meraloma Club stands as a time-tested model of all that is best in volunteer community sports establishments."

The Meraloma Club is housed in a 1923 Parks & Recreation vintage structure, on Connaught Park which it continues to renovate and maintain. A Heritage Award from the City of Vancouver was earned in 1979 for preserving architectural integrity during renovations.

[edit] Regarding edits made to Vancouver Rugby Union

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Meraloma! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the link you added, matching rule \bexample\.com, is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia's external links policy for more information. [edit] License tagging for Image:Clubhouse.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Clubhouse.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 09:05, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Clubhouse.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Clubhouse.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. cohesion 05:25, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Loma.gif

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Loma.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:07, 3 November 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jusjih 02:07, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Meraloma Club

Meraloma Club, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Meraloma Club satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Meraloma Club and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Meraloma Club during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Docg 23:37, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Meraloma club

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Meraloma club, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.meraloma.com/club/history.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 22:03, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Please read the guide to requesting and formalizing permission to use copyrighted works on Wikipedia. Note that, in addition to copyright requirements, the article must still comply with notability guidelines, advertising prohibition and avoid conflicts of interest.. In addition, you have an apparent conflict of interest— you should avoid editing articles about organizations or persons you are related to, especially when you own, or are employed, by them.

Furthermore, the article you wrote could also have been deleted by the speedy deletion criteria since it contained no indication of the importance of significance of the club. — Coren (talk) 03:35, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Diamondm.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Diamondm.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from or who created it. We requires this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

[edit] George W. Bush

I reverted your edit to George W. Bush with an unfortunately inaccurate edit summary. Seems I need to pay attention to which tab I have open. Regardless, the Posada issue was discussed a few months ago and it was determined to be irrelevant to the Bush article. The previous discussion can be found in Talk:George W. Bush/Archive 56. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Southoftheborder.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Southoftheborder.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 11:05, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
