Arthur Mervyn Stockwood ( - ) was born in Bridgend.He was appointed bishop of Southward,possibly the most turbulent diocese in the Church of England. Although no stranger to taking disciplinary action against his clergy, his outspoken style commended him, The diocese' reputation for-ill defined Christian belief and practise "South Bank Religion" was enhanced by the nomination of John Robinson as suffragan bishop of Woolwich
