Merton Abbey railway station
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Merton Abbey railway station was a railway station in Merton on the Tooting, Merton and Wimbledon Railway. It was opened in 1868, became part of the Southern Railway (SR) in 1923, and closed to passengers in 1929.
It was near Colliers Wood and South Wimbledon stations on the Northern Line. Competition from the tube was a cause of its closure. The line remained open for goods services until 1975. The site of the station lies under a road, the Merantun Way.[1]
