[edit] Biography
[edit] Early life
Nguyen received her first name after her mother had been in the Mersing Hospital for nearly a month due to birth complications. After hearing word from the family's uncle that the sponsorship process was done, her parents, Tue Nguyen and Men Hoang fled Malaysia and took the children to reside in Arlington, Texas. Unlike most children who had a bedtime curfew, Nguyen's parents allowed her to stay up past 11 p.m. Having grown accustom to that lifestyle, she spent endless nights watching Hong Kong sword fighting movies that were translated in her native tongue, Vietnamese. She was so fascinated that she contemplated on becoming a Hong Kong actress. She quickly erased that idea knowing that it would be difficult to learn how to speak Cantonese without ever understanding it. During middle school, Mersing took speech and drama classes not to pursue her acting ambitions but because of a lack of choices. After numerous awards, praises and being asked by her High School to teach the freshman classes, she grew fond of acting. By the time she graduated high school, she chose to go to college to study sports medicine at the expense of not wanting to disappoint her family. Nguyen realized that this was not the right path for her and moved to New York for off-Broadway work.
