[edit] History

The school began classes in the year of 1904 at the corners of Pine Street and Meridian Road, in a one room school house. Meridian High was the first high school in the Meridian area. During most of the twentieth century, Meridian and surrounding areas were considered separate from the capital Boise to the east.

A more modern building was built at the present location location, at the intersection of Pine and Linder, in the 1970s.

With growth in the greater Boise area, additional high schools were built to relieve congestion: Centennial High School in 1988, Eagle High School in 1995 and Rocky Mountain High School in 2008.

As of fall of 2007, a new building was constructed adding additional space for students and facilty. Three new shops are now housed in the newly constructed PTC building. Additional space for the Future Farmers of America (FFA) was also established.

Some of the current traditions stem from the 100-plus year history of the school:

  • The Burning of the "M" at the homecoming game.
  • The "Warrior Rumble" Cheer
  • The Meridian Tube, Plunger, and Leg seen at Football and Boy's Basketball Games.

[edit] Debate And Speech Team

"Opinions are formed in a process of open discussion and public debate, and where no opportunity for the forming of opinions exists, there may be moods—moods of the masses and moods of individuals, the latter no less fickle and unreliable than the former-but no opinion" -Hanna Arendt...The MSH Debate and Speech Team has a history of standing by this. Believing that debate forms your mind and knowing that it will always help you in the future. Skills learned in debate and speech will teach you not only how to speak well but to persuade, and present yourself appropriately at all times. Our team currently attends local tournaments and some travel is included. Recruitment for individual with the drive to be the best they can be, work till they drop, and dedication to win is our hope.

[edit] Business Professionals of America (BPA)

Business Professionals of America has a strong history at MHS for success. Students compete in events at the regional level and if qualification stands, they go to state and further to Nationals. This year qualification to Nationals was amazing, and next year, even more is expected. Advised by Mrs. Stancil, our team has great guidance for our competitive events. Events range form Desktop Publishing to Extemporaneous Speaking. Anything that has to do with business is included in events. Next year (2009) national tournament will be held in Dallas, Texas. The current team is small, but a famous quote from Mrs. Stancil is “Quality not quantity”. Past competitors have traveled to New York, New York. Ashley McCarthy had this to say I had a… “Jolly old time”. Recruitment in the future looks good. We search for anyone wishing to have an amazing time and willing to pursue a career in business opportunities.
