Merelim São Paio is a parish and a small village of the municipality of Braga in the North of Portugal with an area of 2.39 Km² and a total population of 2.365. Around is possible to visit places like Prado, Merelim São Pedro or Tibães.

Agriculture is very important in Merelim São Paio, a village full of fields of maize and little plantations. However, the agriculturists in Merelim São Paio are getting older and there are few young people following the same way.

Tourism is not very good around Merelim São Paio, a place that can only be attractive for its peacefulness. However, near August lots of Portuguese visitors arrive from countries like France, Switzerland and Canada.

[edit] Rio Cávado
The Rio Cávado (or Cavado River in English) is perhaps the most important place in Merelim São Paio. It is primarily responsible for the occasional Winter flooding, but it is a very good point of reunion and fun in the summer.

In Merelim São Paio and throughout Portugal the population is concentrated in the bars or taverns. There people usually relax after a tiring day, talk with friends or watch most of the football matches. There are five bars in Merelim São Paio.
