Mere, Cheshire
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mere is a linear village along the A556 road in Cheshire in England, about 7 km (4 miles) southeast of Altrincham. Bucklow Hill is at its northeast end, and the Mere crossroads is at the other end. Mere is about a mile long. The houses are the expensive sort with large gardens. They are along the inner sides of a triangle formed by the A556 and A50 and A5034 roads. Inside the triangle is a nearby lake that Mere was named after, and the Mere Golf and Country Club. Travel in the area was made more complicated in recent years by imposition of "no right turn" signs at the Mere crossroads. There are no basic supplies shops (except the Bucklow Hill garage and a pub) there, and its residents must drive into Altrincham or Knutsford for shopping.
Administratively, Mere is a civil parish forming part of the borough of Macclesfield.
