Mercy Secondary School, Mounthawk, is the largest school in Kerry and one of the largest secondary schools in Ireland. It is a Catholic school and has approximately 1,250 pupils and 120 teachers (85 Permanent and 35 Substitutes). The amount of classes per year range from 7-10(E.10). It was opened in 2001 and is equipped to a high standard. It was opened by The Minister For Education, Mary Hanifin.

The school is currently paired with a school in Kenya and funraising is taking place to send students over to over-see the construction of new classrooms.

The school is run by one Principal (Mr T. Behan) and two Vice Principals (Mr J. O'Roarke & Ms M O'Connor)

Mounthawk offers a wide range of subjects (one of the most in the country, offering 28+)

As of April 2008, Mr T. Behan announced his retirement after 7 years as pricipal of the school and many years in various schools.
