Mercy, Severity

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mercy, Severity is the 5th song on the album The End of All Things to Come by the groove/math metal band Mudvayne. The purpose and concept of the lyrics is to represent the personality of the Zodiac symbol Aquarius.

[edit] Astrological references

The references to Aquarius begin with the first verse - "We've come here / from so far away / I can save you / if you leave it all behind" where the symbol is for how Aquarians always look to the future, and never to the past. This is also represented with the lines "Mine the souls from their casts / pour form and reshape".

Then afterwards - "Would you take a trip with me / on the back of a star / I feel like earth's gravity is just here to pull us down" referring to air being the dominant element of Aquarius. This is also represented with the lines "We can carry you on our wings / our wings through the dark"

[edit] Outside references

"Pain of division is nothing / Joy of dissolution is everything" is a quote from Aleister Crowley's The Book of the Law.
