The Mercedes-Benz GLK (code name X204) is a compact crossover coming in 2008, to compete with the Infiniti EX, Acura RDX, BMW X3, Volkswagen Tiguan the Land Rover LR2/Freelander, as well as the upcoming Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, and Cadillac BRX. The model will slot below the M-Class in the lineup.
The upcoming GLK-Class will launch in 2008 and will be built in Bremen (Germany), the first Mercedes SUV to be built there. Rumored engines are the 2.8L V6 and the 3.5L V6 making up the GLK 280 and the GLK 350. Its design is heavily infuenced by the G-Class. The GLK 350 has been seen without camouflage in the filming of Sex and the City: The Movie.
On 2008-01-12, actress Kim Cattrall appeared at a special unveiling ceremony at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, confirming that her Sex and the City character (Samantha Jones) would drive the SUV in the movie version of the popular TV show.
The GLK will be presented for the first time in 2008 in Detroit under the form of the Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK Freeside concept.[1]
It is speculated that the GLK-Class will share the C-Class (W204) platform, and production plans continued after the demise of the similar Smart Formore.
