Does anybody know where this name originates from? It is a street in Meols and I wondered what etymology of the street name is? Thanks, -- 212.21.109.186 14:36, 29 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Great Meols, Little Meols and Hoose
I'm pretty sure that present-day Meols is not the amalgamation of Great and Little Meols. Rather it is just Great Meols (Elwyn Road school used to be called Great Meols County Primary). Little Meols is roughly the area around Hoylake station (hence Meols Drive). The area around Manor Road station used to be called Hoose (whence Hoose Court). Pretty sure this is the state of affairs in the Domesday Book. Did some reading up on local history in Hoylake Library late 70s / early 80s. GroupCohomologist 08:23, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
