Talk:Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I moved the page back to "Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík". That is its official name and I can find no indication anywhere that "Reykjavík Junior College" is used as an offical English substitute. On offical documents in English from the school "Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík" is used. - Haukurth 23:26, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- I think I remember the school being called a junior college in English before, but it clearly isn't according to the definition of a junior college. MR is simply a secondary school/high school (which grunnskóli is not).
Damn, this text is no good, probably written by a cocky MR student. A few things that are simply wrong:
"Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík (The Junior College in Reykjavík) is the oldest and the most respected Junior College in Reykjavík, Iceland." Yeah, it's the oldest, but the most respected, I don't think so. Actually I've never known that one school is more respected then another one.
"It is considered hard to get an entrance to MR, and usually only students who have achieved outstanding results in Grunnskóli (secondary school/high school) get in." This used to be true, yes, but in recent years fewer students are willing to study at MR, so it's actually getting rather easy to get in there.
"Studies show that MR students do a great deal better in Universities than students of other schools." Do I have to say anything? The writer doens't give any proof. I've never seen any studies that support this and I'm an icelander and very interested in our school system among other things.
- That is actually true and there exists studies that show that. But I can't link you to them as they don't lie on the Internet...
"Most Icelandic politicians [...] either went to MR or taught in it." Some icelandic should ..

I've deleted and/or altered all the POV nonsense but this article still needs some work done. --Biekko 00:26, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)
As a former student with formal English paperwork and course confirmations from MR, I can confirm that it is indeed called "Reykjavík Junior College" in English. I suggest a redirect -- Palthrow
I, too, am a former student with formal English paperwork and course confirmation from MR. How old is yours? - Haukur Þorgeirsson 15:05, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Assessment
A very important old school which has educated most of the Prime Ministers of Iceland and is therefore of top importance to the schools project. You need to focus on adding references and providing more content, especially about the history of the school, to advance to a B. Dahliarose (talk) 09:38, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
