Menteng

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Menteng is a subdistrict of Central Jakarta, Indonesia. It is known as a neighborhood for bureaucrats, diplomats and the wealthy among Jakartans. Supported by easy access to service centers and nearby to the central business district, Menteng is one of the most expensive areas for residential real estate in the province. Many luxurious houses are spread around the area.

The Subdistrict of Menteng is divided into 5 kelurahan: Cikini, Menteng, Pegangsaan, Kebon Sirih, and Gondangdia.

Many roads leading to Central Jakarta pass through Menteng, resulting in congestion by private and public transportation in peak hours. Traffic has increased dramatically since twenty years ago and there is a lack of serious road infrastructure development.

United States Presidential candidate, Illinois Senator Barack Obama, attended Primary School 1, an Indonesian public school, in the Menteng district while living in Indonesia.[1]
