Menifee is an unincorporated area of Riverside County, California, United States.

Menifee is one of the three primary communities that make up the greater Menifee Valley. Other communities include Sun City, California and Quail Valley, California. The estimated population of Menifee Valley as of May 2007 is 84,200, according to the Menifee Sun City Chamber of Commerce.

Menifee borders Sun City to the north, Quail Valley and Canyon Lake to the west, and Murrieta, California to the south. The city center of Menifee lies at the intersection of Newport Road and Interstate 215, which is located at 33°41′05″N, 117°10′16″W

Menifee Valley is known for its picturesque qualities, with scenic views of the San Jacinto Mountains, the San Bernardino Mountains, Mt Baldy, and Lake Elsinore Mountains.

[edit] Community Incorporation and Government

On June 3, 2008, voters elected to incorporate Menifee as a general law city, and have it called Menifee as well. This means Menifee will become incorporated on October 1, 2008. It will be governed by a 5-member city council, and future elections will be by district. It will be approximately 48.5 square miles and have a population of around 60,500.[1]

Elementary and middle school level education in the Menifee Valley area is provided by the Menifee Union School District, which serves most of Menifee as well as parts of the City of Lake Elsinore and French Valley (northeast of Temecula). Students in the high school level attend school in the Perris Union High School District, which includes Paloma Valley High School in Menifee. Menifee is also home to Mount San Jacinto Community College, Menifee Campus which serves the Temecula, Murrieta and Menifee area. Students are able to take the classes necessary in order to transfer to 4 year college institutions. The community college also has a nursing program for those wanting to become Registered Nurses. In addition, Menifee is about 30 minutes from UC Riverside.

The primary routes in Menifee are Interstate 215 and Newport Road/ Dominegoni Expressway. In the end of 2008, construction will begin to expand the 4 lane I-215 into an 8 lane superhighway running south into the I-15 freeway towards San Diego. Currently, Menifee is located approximately 1 hour east of Los Angeles and 1 hour north of San Diego.
