Mengal

Mengal (Balochi: مینگل ) is a one of the famous tribes in Balochistan, Pakistan. Mengal tribe is noteworthy because of its close association with Balochistan politics, particularly with endeavours for greater autonomy from Pakistan government. Two members of the family - Ataullah Mengal and Akhtar Mengal - have been Chief Ministers of Balochistan. Another member of the mengal family - Amir-ul-Mulk Mengal has been Governor and Chief Justice of Balochistan. The Mengal tribe can be divided in two major branches: Shahizai Mengal and Zagar Mengal. Their leaders are entitled to the honorary title of sardar. Sardar Ataullah Mengal is the head of Shahizai clan and Sardar Asif Mengal is the acting head of Zagar Mengal clan. Mengal tribe speaks Brahui language. [1]
