Men of God is a Christian fraternity founded in 1999. Its members are primarily African Americans, and it has two chapters in Texas.

[edit] History of M.O.G.
The first meeting held by the founders was on December 5, 1999 at one of the founder’s apartments. The founding chapter at Texas Tech University is now officially the Eleazar Chapter.
During a Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Step Show in Lubbock, Texas, Men of God was called to minister and the founding brothers had to select a name. The founders could not agree on a name because the brothers simply wanted to be known as, “Men of God.” That night the name, Men of God was established.
After the initial seven worked tirelessly to minister to others while establishing the organization as a force, others came to the organization and the fraternity became incorporated on December 11, 2000.

Men of God is dedicated to living free through the fellowship of brothers (1 Peter 3:8-9 & Acts 2:42-47), education through the word of God (2 Tim. 2:15), and salvation through Jesus Christ (John 3:16 & Romans 10:13).

The vision statement of the Fraternity is: "We envision a scriptural- based, Christ-centered organization in which college-aged men seeking a greater knowledge of Jesus Christ can come and receive fellowship, education, leadership, salvation, and learn to foster a spirit of servant-hood for and through Jesus Christ."
[edit] Group Purpose
The Fraternity has established a Purpose Statement as well: "We believe that persons drawn to this organization have been so led by the spirit of God, having already been equipped with the tools necessary to become a warrior for Christ. Thus, our objective is to merely encourage such a transition, refining those gifts and talents given by God so that overall, the body of Christ may be up lifted."

The national Fraternity has set forth the follow purpose as binding upon the whole Fraternity: "There are a lot of things in which God requires Man to be, thus M.O.G. wants to focus on ministering to the whole man. When God healed someone he usually said, “you are made whole”. We believe that for Man to be all that God wants them to be that a Man should be equipped spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, financially, and in any other way in which the word of God states. After having a good understanding of this, M.O.G. believes in raising the standard in which all Men live by. Men of God will strive to be men of noble character, integrity, faith, and know how to be a force in their community."

The overall theme for the Men of God Organization is “Raising the Standard and Standing Firm,” based primarily on Ephesians 6:10-18.
[edit] Currently in M.O.G
Men of God Christian Fraternity is continually trying to raise the standard in the lives of the men and all who come in contact with them. As of spring 2007, M.O.G have successfully planned and carried out a "God's Love Dinner" in which the men bring in 80-100 women from the campus and cook them a meal. Throughout the night, the brothers will preach over different topics in between the 4 course meal being served. The brothers also put on The Kingdom Conference. This is an annual event that occurs in late April. This is a holy spirit filled weekend in which the Lubbock community has the opportunity to hear the word of God by different speakers from around the state. The conference is kicked off with a Psalm Night in which, the brothers brought in Tedashii, a Christian rapper from Dallas. The theme of the weekend was "A New Way to Be Human"
