Built life?

I found something very interesting that you may also like. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the Uplift Universe, but in it, machines are considered a type of legitimate life form. I was reading an Uplift encyclopedia and came across this little gem:

Somewhat distinct from true "Machine" sapience is "Virtual" sapience. Virtual sapience is not specifically hardware dependent --it is, in fact, a computer program. Of course, the program requires a suitable hardware substrate, and manifestations of a given Virtual form may vary somewhat depending on the supporting hardware platform. However, speaking strictly, the hardware contains no inherent potential for sapience. After manufacture the machine will not learn on its own. Only after certain software program(s) are loaded will any sapient qualities become manifest. Indeed, if the sapient program is completely deleted and scrubbed, the hardware should support another member of the Virtual species equally well. As a rule, Virtual species can survive de-powering of hardware substrates if properly stored, and they can clone (copy) themselves or migrate from one platform to another. Also, provided a sufficiently sophisticated substrate is available, more than one (distinct) virtual sapience can "live" in one hardware substrate.

This is a perfect description of a persocom! This passage has a great deal of relevance to Freya's conversation with Hideki, when she tells him that the Chobits are not truly sentient. To put it in Uplift terms, they do not possess "true" machine sapience, but rather, "virtual" sapience. A persocom, even a Chobit, has no inherent potential for learning or consciousness. Only when they have some kind of operating software installed to any sapient qualities become manifest, as they put it. They can survive the powering down of their hardware (ep. 06 Chii Weakens) they can migrate from system to system (Freya's transfer to Chi) and in the case of a Chobit, two instances of virtual sapience can inhabit the same machine. Very cool.

It goes on to say that true machine sapience is present when the hardware itself is capable of generating consciousness without a separate software program. (A good example of true machine intelligence would be something like Commander Data, I suppose.)PiccoloNamek (talk) 05:40, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm not very familiar with the Uplift Universe, but that is definitely interesting. It really is a fantastic definition for a persocom. Thanks for pointing it out to me, it actually helped me to understand better the mechanics in the Chobits series. MelicansMatkin (talk) 20:20, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Out of universe (PiccoloNamek)

Looking at the article for Chi, I've realized that it is mostly in-universe information. I'm trying to think of ways that (relevant) out-of-universe information could be added to the article. I know that lots of people cosplay as Chi at anime conventions, but the trouble with finding information on Chi's popularity is that links to reliable sources are very thin on the ground. Do you have any ideas on how we can incorporate out-of-universe information into the article? MelicansMatkin (talk) 21:33, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

The kind of out-of-universe information I've always hoped for is stuff like creator interviews and legitimate critical commentary that other people have written. The only problem is that such information is very hard to come by. Talking about stuff cosplay conventions add nothing of value to the article, IMO. Everybody knows that people dress up as Freya and Chii.PiccoloNamek (talk) 22:48, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
I actually found a NY Times interview with CLAMP from a couple of years ago; there isn't much on Chobits, but if more information of this quality could be found a decent section could be written up. Here's the link if you're interested: CLAMP interview. MelicansMatkin (talk) 23:01, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
I also found some links to reviews of Chobits courtesy of IMDb: there might be some usable information in those. MelicansMatkin (talk) 23:21, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Street Cred Fred

I saw your edits just now to his talk page and I think it's worth you knowing, if you don't already, that this man claims to be GK's father. Given GK's playful response on SCF's talk page about him antagonising GK, it's more than likely true. asyndeton (talk) 18:15, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the information. I did indeed know that Green Kirby had said that street Cred Fred was his father, but I wasn't sure if it was true or not, so I didn't mention it. Thank you for the link and confirmation! MelicansMatkin (talk) 18:17, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. Regardless of who, what, when, where, or why who said what, I don't think neither Green Kirby nor Sukecchi should be worrying about each other. Your message alone brings to light an issue I have with this site. Apparantly, you've monitored both Green Kirby and Sukecchi's pages as well as mine, followed the dialouge, and actually took time to comment on my own page. Why would you care? You claim to know what I'm up to on this site and tell me I need to stick to edits, but your own actions suggest you interests lie elsewhere. This is consistant with dialouge I've witnissed since getting involved. The very people taking time to follow other people's contributions, or lack of, seem to spend much more time following percieved drama than those they're critizing. Someone suggested I'm Green Kirby's father: is that the type of contributions administrators are looking for? Who keeps up with that stuff? The advice I gave both Sukecchi and Green Kirby was dead on; perhaps you should read the material and focus less on where it came from or what my history is. That would give you more time to make the all important edits you keep referring to. Have a nice day.Street Cred Fred (talk) 00:19, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

You yourself said to Alison that you are Green Kirby's father, and Green Kirby himself stated it. I have tried to help your son, along with many others, and yet he spurned everybody's advice and suggestions. I'd also like you to know that any issue that involves Sukecchi also involves me. I find it very ironic that you tell me not to focus on talk pages, since you have made only two edits that are not on a talk page. Perhaps you should take a long look at my contributions. I've made over 2000 contributions to this encyclopedia, created several pages, and entirely revamped several others. When I comment on an article's talk page it is on a matter pertaining to the article itself. When I comment on a user's talk page, it is to remark on their contributions, ask for a clarification, in short anything that leads to a contribution on this project. Your "advice" to Sukecchi was not to post at 2:00 in the morning; thats hardly dead on since he does not live in that time zone. I suggest that instead of creating an account for the purpose of involving yourself in the Green Kirby debate, you focus on actually editing the encyclopedia. Again, maybe you should try checking how many worthwhile contributions I've made to this project. A near-complete list in on my user page. Have a nice evening (7:30 pm, my time for the record). MelicansMatkin (talk) 00:30, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

I haven't done a very good job of communicating to you where I'm coming from, and wish you no ill will. I have reviewed your user page and discovered we share common interests. I was listening to U2 twenty years ago; I'm also an Athiest. The part of the world I live in (Bible Belt) does not look kindly upon people that lack Christian beliefs, so I keep it to myself. If you are a reader, and I suspect you are, you should read Michael Chabon's The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay and Jonathan Franzen's novel The Corrections. I am not a last word freak and only wish you the best of luck. I have backed away from support of Green Kirby because of maturity issues. In time, he'll be a valuable resource on this site. I look forward to your future contributions.Street Cred Fred (talk) 16:12, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

The First Time (Axver)

I was randomly browsing U2-vertigo-tour and I saw all of the entries for The First Time. I think that there was an occassion where Bono performed the song solo during the Zooropa recording sessions, which isn't listed. IIRC, it was on Spanish radio although I'm not sure what the date was. I have the clip on my computer, and it's definitely an early perfroamce before tha lbum came out. Bono explains in between verses about some of the lyrics, and some of the lyrics are pretty different. What I find most interesting is that he sings the song in a higher scale, a la Lemon. Would you like me to send you the file? MelicansMatkin (talk) 20:39, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

I have actually heard about the performance you mention; I understand Bono did it on Mexican radio at some point in November 1992 (i.e. when the band was there for four ZooTV concerts). I've been meaning to add it, to tell the truth, but it slipped my mind. Furthermore, I've never actually heard it for myself, so I would certainly appreciate a copy! I have the "e-mail this user" option enabled, but if that doesn't work for some reason, just let me know and I can leave my e-mail address. Thank you! - Axver (talk) 23:32, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
So sorry for the delay; it took me a while to find the file. A couple of months ago my computer crashed and I lost all of my music. I was able to put everything that I had on my iPod back on to my computer, but all of the file names were changed for some reason. So, at long last, heres the file! I sure hope it's the right one... http://download.yousendit.com/0EFC7DD110C08C00 Enjoy! MelicansMatkin 18:26, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Thank you muchly for that. Don't worry about the delay - better late than never. :) And wow, that version is even more different than I expected. What a shame a proper studio recording along these lines doesn't exist. It's amusing how Bono provides somewhat of a running commentary throughout the song. Now I just need to track down enough details about this performance so that I can actually add it to U2VT. I suspect it's going to have to go under 1992-11-00, Unknown Venue, Unknown Location, Mexico! - Axver 14:30, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
It's definitely an unusual take, isn't it? I really like it though; the changed lyrics, the falsetto voice, and just Bono on the acoustic guitar. I have to say though, I think I prefer it with the keyboards/piano part present on Zooropa. Good call on the airdate though! MelicansMatkin 17:39, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Battle of Vimy Ridge (LeadSongDog)

I've noticed that since the GA nomination failed, you've been putting a lot of work into this article. I really have to commend your effort on this. It's looking much better already, and the sources have really improved. Keep up the good work! MelicansMatkin 20:41, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. I think of it as one small repayment of a long-standing debt.LeadSongDog 20:51, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Favour Requested (Merbabu)

I've begun to create a list that includes all of the covers of U2 songs that I've been able to find. Could you do me a favour and look it over? I've only gotten through "40", the A's and the B's so far, but I would appreciate your feedback on the way it is structured so far. MelicansMatkin (talk) 22:00, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

yup - good idea in my books. But a lot of work. The key would be to somehow direct people and their quasi-notable band to your article from each song article. A {{main|List of covers of U2 songs}} tag in the song article might do the trick. nice work. --Merbabu (talk) 12:41, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Removing references (Mushroom)

I noticed that on Buizel, you removed what you said were unreliable and unofficial websites. In doing so, you removed links to Bulbapedia and Psypokes, but you left in Serebii.net. I'm curious as to why you left Serebii.net as an External Link, when it is just as unofficial as the others that you removed. MelicansMatkin (talk) 16:25, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

I left it because it was an instance of the {{Serebiidex}} template. I have nominated the template for deletion, and when it is deleted it will (hopefully) automatically be removed by bots. Actually, I would have been more than happy to remove it, but it seems more appropriate to me to wait for the TfD to go through. Mushroom (Talk) 17:30, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick response, that definitely makes sense. MelicansMatkin (talk) 18:14, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

About Sukecchi

That was no personal attack, it really is the truth! 216.166.78.9 (talk) 03:00, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

I highly doubt that. It is generally considered bad faith to edit another user's userpage, so I encourage you not to do so again. MelicansMatkin (talk) 03:09, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Oh ok, but he really IS gay though. I'm sure you've seen his userboxes. 216.166.78.9 (talk) 03:11, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
I have. Your point? MelicansMatkin (talk) 03:12, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
...What the hell is going on? .-. -Sukecchi (talk) 17:46, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
It stemmed from this edit to your userpage. Given what happened before with Green Kirby, and that one discussion on your talk page, I thought it best to undo the addition, especially since it's considered common courtesy not to edit another's user page. MelicansMatkin (talk) 01:00, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you!

Electrical Storm

Hi. I see that you've reverted my edit to this article again and you added a link beside rock. Well, but I can't find the link you've added. D@rk talk 10:59, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

That's because there was no reference template included in the article. I've added the template, and you should be able to get to the link fine now, although if you wish to change it to Alternative again you will need to provide a source of your own. MelicansMatkin (talk) 14:56, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Userpage Cleanup

I made a couple of format and clean-up changes to your userpage; I hope that is okay with you. However, please note that claiming an article or userpage to be protected (even your own) is generally a pretty serious thing to do and not allowed on Wikipedia. MelicansMatkin (talk) 20:47, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

OK no prob and thanks for the clean up my page looks a lot better, I have a question how do you post pictures on wiki?--DarkFierceDeityLink 00:19, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Suspected V-Dash sock

A new user, SPD has made the exact same edits to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl that V-Dash did back in November. By that I mean this new user keeps changing the genre from CRPG to RPG, and changing the number of species. I thought that I should bring this to your attention, given V-Dash's past history of trolling and sockpuppetry, as well as your experience in handling the situation with that user. It could be unrelated to V-Dash, but I certainly find it suspicious. MelicansMatkin (talk) 22:53, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

You're wrong, and waaaaaay late. -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 23:22, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know; I wasn't sure if you'd seen it or not. MelicansMatkin (talk) 00:11, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

More U2 rarities (to Axver)

I was looking through all of my U2 songs on iTunes, and I realized that I actually have quite a few rarities of live performances. Would you like me to send you copies of some? Some that I think you may be interested in are:

  1. the only live performance of "Like A Song..."
  2. the only recording of "Acrobat" from tour rehearsels, which was actually played acoustically and segued into Zoo Station
  3. the only full-band live recording of "So Cruel" from tour rehearsels
  4. a near soundcheck-quality full-band performance of "Mothers of the Disappeared"
  5. all three times that "Zooropa" was played live

Would you like any of them? MelicansMatkin (talk) 23:46, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey, sorry for the slow reply - I haven't been on Wikipedia much the last couple of weeks. Thank you for thinking of me and offering the uploads; however, I think I have all of them. The only one I might not have is the performance of Mothers of the Disappeared; do you know where it's from? I think I have all of the full band Joshua Tree Tour performances along with the soundcheck of it from 25 April 1987 which also gave us My Time Hasn't Come and Move Out. If you don't happen to have either of those two, I'd be more than happy to upload them. - Axver (talk) 02:09, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

RfC

I have started a conduct RfC on V-Dash. Feel free to provide any evidence or diffs you may have. -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 22:18, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

I also wish to participate in this...but before I make my claim...he's threatened other users too, right? I specifically want to mention what he said about my user page. -Sukecchi (talk) 17:14, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm not really sure about his contributions made on pages that aren't on my watchlist, but I seem to remember that he made a derogatory comment about you that wasn't the one on your talk page. I think it was on Talk:Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, but that's going back quite a ways now. I don't know if he's actually explicitly threatened any other users, but there have been several unpleasant incidents. There was the blogging incident (The Dash Report?), where he used his talk page to comment on different people every day (including some that weren't Wikipedians). He's also gotten into a few spats with an anonymous IP that referred to themselves as "Wandering Hero", although the IP never actually registered an account. V-Dash also filed an ANI complaint a couple of weeks ago, citing admin abuse against Jeske. There was an earlier ANI case too, this one against V-Dash. Here's the link for that case. In that last one, Halfshadow has some interesting input and V-Dash began his sockpuppetry. V-Dash's newest ANI complaint is here. MelicansMatkin (talk) 17:33, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Bono edit

I wasn't vandalising the Bono article.I tried to improve. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.242.147.209 (talk) 17:49, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Deliberately changing somebody's name to something incorrect is not a legitimate edit. No matter which way anybody tries to look at it, it is vandalism. You were previously warned for making the same edit by a different user, and I see that you made the same claim on their talk page. Vandalism does not an improvement make. MelicansMatkin (talk) 18:10, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Misty

Please talk to me on the Misty Talk page about my new ideas that don't break the rules WP:V, WP:OR, WP:NOT. I'm sorry that you seem to be annoyed about discussing this. I know you don't have to I'm not begging you to I just peoples opinions.

I'm not annoyed at all, I've just been too preoccupied with work, school, and a couple of other things to visit every page on my Watchlist. I'm always happy to help if I can, so I'll take a look at your proposals and get back to you. MelicansMatkin (talk) 05:00, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Unblanking my user page and my talk page (A. Exeunt)

Thanks for doing that for me; I didn't have an opportunity to unblank it at school today, and as soon as I finished I had work. I just got off now, so thank you very much for unblanking them! MelicansMatkin (talk) 04:53, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Don't mention it. I was just keeping tabs on how long your pages were blanked. The passing of Wei Wenhua is an immeasurable loss, but it should not be so immeasurable to the point of impeding Wikipedia work for extended periods of time. See you around. -- Altiris Helios Exeunt 05:48, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

YouTube Links (Feydey)

Hi, could you clarify your position on adding YouTube links for music videos to the articles? I was under the impression that linking to YouTube violates Wikipedia policy, and I would like to know if I am wrong on this point. MelicansMatkin (talk) 05:19, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Per Wikipedia:EL:
Linking to YouTube, Google Video, and similar sites
There is no blanket ban on linking to these sites as long as the links abide by the guidelines on this page (which would be infrequent). See also Wikipedia:Copyrights for the prohibition on linking to pages that violate intellectual property rights.
Best, feydey (talk) 05:25, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks very much for that clarification, :) MelicansMatkin (talk) 05:49, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Response to Brock Edit

I'm done with removing the Fate Unknown: Tauros part from the Brock article. Personally I believe that it belongs to Ash since Brock having a Tauros was never mentioned again after that episode, but since theres no proof that it's officially Ash's and you feel that strongly about it, I won't go any further with removing it from the page. 24.47.198.164 (talk) 14:25, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Notice

Glad that one edit--unblanking a full, formerly featured article--makes me "appear to be engaged in an edit war". I mean no harm, but throwing a B.S. standardized (thankfully subst'd, though) "if you continue, you may be blocked from editing" line typically doesn't lend itself to a reasoned discussion. Just throwing that out there. Matt Yeager (Talk?) 06:56, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

I apologize, but that line comes up automatically when the template is posted; unfortunately that is the only template I thought to be suitable for use in this case. I am aware that you only made one edit, although as the page was continually being reverted on both sides the edit war template was appropriate for just that single edit. I posted the identical message to everyone who was continuing to revert the page from a redirect to a full article, and from a full article to a redirect. Instead of turning it into an edit war, I was trying to begin a reasoned discussion so that it would not become one. I sincerely apologize if I did not make this clear in my notice, or if you interpreted my notice in a different way than I intended. MelicansMatkin (talk) 15:42, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry Accusations (User:Triceratops9)

Triceratops9, do not accuse of sockpuppetry without evidence. If need be you can file a checkuser request, but no unverified accusations please. MelicansMatkin (talk) 04:00, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

If you have dealt with komodo lover as much as I have then you would recognize that this is the same guy, but fine, I know its him though. Triceratops9 (talk) 17:36, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
I have never dealt with Komodo Lover, although I know of his track record. Still, no accusations please. If you are so convinced that this user is a sockpuppet, file an RFC MelicansMatkin (talk) 04:00, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

76.118.216.61

Can you help keep an eye on 76.118.216.61 (talkcontribsdeleted contribsWHOISRDNStraceRBLshttpblock userblock log) and revert this anon's vandalism? I don't know what (s)he has against me; this person keeps reverting all of my helpful edits on Ash Ketchum for basically nothing. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 04:35, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

I have absolutely nothing personal against Sess, the issue here is that his or her edits are grammatically and factually incorrect. Ash is NOT the main protagonist of the entire franchise, only the anime and certain manga. Red is the ONLY protagonist of Red and Blue, so specifying the "male protagonist" was unnecessary. If you actually examine my edits[1][2][3], I am not just blankly reverting his or her edits, I am also tweaking and tailoring things to read accurately. This last time[4] I AM reverting him or her directly, though, because HE OR SHE blindly reverted ME[5] without even bothering to see in what ways I might have improved the article. He or she keeps leaving vandalism warnings on my talk page, but has failed to explain how rephrasing things and correcting minor informational issues constitutes vandalism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.118.216.61 (talk) 07:04, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm taking a look over the history here as well, and I have to agree with the IP user: What he was doing was not vandalism. Sesshomaru and the IP have differing points of view on Ash's role, and they got into an edit war, but I saw no evidence of vandalism from either party. At worst, it would be a case of POV pushing and ignoring consensus on either part, and more likely it's simply a lack of consensus, considering that there has not been a proper discussion on the article's talk page. (If there was a discussion elsewhere, or it was archived, please point me to it, and ensure that everyone involved in this dispute is aware of it.) — KieferSkunk (talk) — 23:57, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't see any vandalism happening here; as KieferSkunk said, it looks like it's just a difference in opinion on how to word the lead. Please be aware, however, that this appears to have become an edit war, and I believe that you both may have violated the three-revert rule. Instead of edit warring, why not take it to the talk page where you can have a proper discussion? MelicansMatkin (talk) 02:24, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
I think it's been taken care of. Thanks, Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 02:34, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Omnidex Linking

Hi, sorry for the trouble, but I did not wanted to be just a stupid advertising tool myself. It was not a real part of promotion, but I wanted to make people aware that there are websites with advanced information (a Pokedex), which can not be placed here. The whole website serves as a Pokedex, so I thought it was a good idea to add links to the pokemon species pages. Again, sorry for the trouble,

~remco~

PS. Why is a bulbapedia link allowed? That's just a link to another wiki? Not to some specific information... —Preceding unsigned comment added by TheUnknownCylon (talkcontribs) 16:21, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

It's not a huge problem, and I'm glad to know that it wasn't for promotional purposes. The "External Links" section is primarily meant to link towards official pages; in the case of a band such as U2, U2.com would be a link placed in that section. We've been trimming down all of the unofficial links to fansites recently. This is why other fansites, such as Serebii, are no longer listed. I'm not entirely sure why Bulbapedia remains at this point; probably just so that the section isn't left blank. If you like, you can always ask at the Pokemon WikiProject; I'm sure they'd be more than happy to answer your questions, and they'll be able to give you a more informed answer then I can.
Also, I see that you've been discovered by the dreaded SineBot. All you have to do to stop SineBot from signing for you is to type four ~ in a row. MelicansMatkin (talk) 16:36, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Serebii Removal

Sorry to bother, but I thought Serebii.net was an official site, according to you it isn't. If this does indeed violate WP:FANSITE, then the links from the other pages, like Pikachu and Gary Oak to name a few, should be removed too. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 17:23, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Serebii.net official? It's was created by a fan, is updated by a fan, and is maintained by a fan. Definitely not an official website. Serebii.net has many small errors in it's information, which cause it to violate WP:V, WP:EL, and WP:RS. It may be a very good fansite, but it is a fansite nonetheless, and is no more official than Bulbapedia or Pokemopolis. MelicansMatkin (talk) 17:26, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
We should put {{Serebiidex}} and {{Omnidex}} up for this deletion if this is the case. I thought those sites were ok because of the existence of these templates. Thoughts? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 17:41, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Serebiidex has been nominated for deletion at least twice before. I believe it has been kept for historical purposes. The Omnidex template was only created today, and I agree it should be nominated for deletion. Serebiidex should probably be nominated again, as there is now no need for it with the merged lists.MelicansMatkin (talk) 17:43, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Would you like to do the honours? Nominating them, I mean. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 17:49, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Now there's the matter of this image. What to do with it? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 18:56, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
At the moment, the consensus appears to say that the template will be deleted. If that occurs, the image will be tagged as orphaned and deleted within 7 days. MelicansMatkin (talk) 23:55, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Ah Well

I knew that this would come sooner or later. Thanks for removing the references to self-published sources. -- Altiris Helios Exeunt 06:32, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Was that sarcasm? A fansite does not qualify as a reliable source; the actual episodes should be what are referenced, not the fansites. MelicansMatkin (talk) 12:02, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Eh? That wasn't sarcasm, that was resignation. Someone (was it you?) told me several months ago about WP:SPS. But I just don't like removing references. -- Altiris Helios Exeunt 00:04, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

I can't actually remember if it was me who told you about that or not. I know, removing the references is a huge pain. I'll try to add citations back in to the actual episodes though, so that at least the references will then pass WP:RS, WP:V, and WP:SPS. Sorry about the sarcasm comment, by the way. I'd forgotten all about SPS, so your last line seemed very strange to me. I'm glad that it's sorted now though! MelicansMatkin (talk) 00:56, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Someone vandalised your user page, but I dont know how to revert 67.70.39.18 (talk) 03:57, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Someone vandalized my user page? Too right they did, and the IP address is identical to yours. Reverted, and IP is being warned. MelicansMatkin (talk) 04:00, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
But you gotta admit, it was pretty funny. 67.70.39.18 (talk) 04:02, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Vandalism is never funny. Please see WP:VAN. MelicansMatkin (talk) 04:02, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
WP:VAN only supports that it is funny: "The most common types of vandalism include the addition of obscenities or crude humor,". See, it can be funny! Ah, broke a hole in your logic there.
Humour that is apparant only to the one who created the vandalism. Do not do it again, or further warnings shall be given. MelicansMatkin (talk) 04:08, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Nah, it's just humor unapparent to the one the vandalism is affecting. =) 67.70.39.18 (talk) 04:10, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm not going to be drawn into an argument with an anonymous IP over whether vandalism is or is not humourous. For future reference, I suggest that you get a proper understanding of what "crude humour" really is. Changing an age and adding a picture which states "me at 9 years old" does not crude humour make. Hey, thanks for replacing my crude usage of the reference markup with a proper cite template. Is there any page on Wikipedia which lists down all the ways to use the cite template? -- Altiris Helios Exeunt 00:26, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes, WP:Citation templates has a full list of the "cite" examples. It does note that the use of Citation templates is not required by WP:CITE and is neither encouraged nor discouraged by any other Wikipedia citation guidelines. They may be used at the discretion of individual editors... Some editors find them helpful, while other editors find them annoying.., although I personally find that it looks more professional when it is used (if a bit complicated to remember all the different parts that can be included!) I hope that this helps! MelicansMatkin (talk) 01:02, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Barnstar...

The Barnstar of Diligence
I award you this Barnstar for your tireless efforts maintaining and verifying so many U2 articles – particularly all those songs. It’s not gone unnoticed and it makes a huge difference – I don’t have to bother opening to check when I see your name against those articles in my watch list. U2 Edit

I'm kinda new to the whole editing thing, but I have been trying to make people visiting the U2 Wikipedia page aware that Bono does more than just sing and play guitar; he is also a noted harmonica player. However, each time I simply try to add "harmonica" to: "Bono (vocals and guitar)", someone repeatedly edits it out. I don't think this is a case of a well-formed sentence or a dispute over how the statement sounds, as I'm just adding an additional attribute Bono has to a list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.7.241.92 (talk) 04:03, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

I've already explained this on Talk:U2. The consensus is that his playing of the harmonica need not, and should not, be added to the article. Other editors will tell you the same thing. MelicansMatkin (talk) 04:09, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Regardless of the "consensus" with a few random people, if you read what I wrote, Bono probably plays the harmonica more often than he does guitar. It's an important part of songs, such as Running to Stand Still, Desire, Angel of Harlem (on the Vertigo Tour), among others that I can't think of off the top of my head. I don't see what the problem is with adding simply one word to give people a better description of what Bono can do, more than just sing and occasionally play a guitar (that no one can ever hear anyway). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.7.241.92 (talk) 18:31, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

The consensus has been established that the fact that Bono plays the harmonica is completely irrelevent to the U2 article. If we were to list every instrument that every band member has played, the article would far too long. Read WP:TRIVIA. Bono has only ever played harmonica on three songs: Running to Stand Still, Trip Through Your Wires, and Desire. Vertigo Tour performances of Angel of Harlem are irrelevent as the song was only played 13 times on the entire tour. Trip Through Your Wires has not been played in almost 20 years, and Running to Stand Still very rarely in the last 15 years. Contrast that with the songs he has played guitar on: I Will Follow, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Exit, One, Gone, Kite, Desire, Staring at the Sun, When Love Comes to Town, The Fly, the list goes on and on and is far more extensive than songs he plays the harmonica on. The fact that he plays the harmonica on rare occassions is trivia, and it fails WP:TRIVIA. There has been an established consensus among the editors of the U2 article for a very long time that the information is not to be included. MelicansMatkin (talk) 19:38, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Well, using your argument then, you should also remove that The Edge plays piano, as he only does so on October, New Year's Day, Running to Stand Still, and (only on tour) Miss Sarajevo and Original of the Species (the few times that it was played). If you only want to give each band members' main contributions musically, then I insist that we remove the fact that The Edge plays the piano. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.7.241.92 (talk) 23:01, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Once again, your information is incorrect. The Edge has played keyboards on more songs than that. Into the Heart and The Unforgettable Fire are two examples that come to mind immediately. As you can see here, the discussion is now over. I will thank you to not continue harping on about it. MelicansMatkin (talk) 00:59, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Honestly, I'd appreciate it if all of you "uber-editors" would get down off of your soapboxes for a minute and see the crux of the issue here. You seem to contradict yourself saying, noting that the harmonica is not a main part of Bono's so-called repertoire, then we should discount his guitar playing, as well. I'm also confused whether we're talking about when U2 is on tour or strictly album versions of songs. If the touring is the case, shouldn't we include that Bono plays the drums, too since he did so every night on the Vertigo Tour during "Love and Peace or Else"? Or, even more, should we include that Larry is a vocalist, since he sang several acapella songs on the ZooTV Tour and every night on the Vertigo Tour to "Love and Peace or Else" and "Miracle Drug"? Or that The Edge is probably a more proficient bass player than most, as he has played bass on every rendition of "40" since its beginnings? Or how about Bono singing backing vocals on "Seconds"? Adam Clayton has also been shown to sing backing vocals, especially during the War Tour. My point is this: while some things may appear to be irrelevant, your reasoning behind the exclusion of the harmonica and inclusion of other things is inconsistent. If you are basing your actions on simply how many times one of the band members plays a certain instrument, then all of the above examples should apply. In regards to Bono's "guitar playing" on apparently tons of songs, in your opinion (although again, I am not sure if you mean solely album versions...if this is so, how can you distinguish?...or live versions), his guitar is virtually never on in the first place, questioning his ability to play it well enough in the first place. The only times it can really be heard off the top of my head are Unchained Melody from ZooTV, One during Vertigo Tour, some versions of The Fly...basically only added snippets of songs after all the other sounds have been turned down/stopped being played. Regardless of how many songs The Edge plays on piano, it is not his main ability, if that is indeed the purpose of the intro section, which I am coming to believe it is. Again, here lies the disconnect. The Edge's featured musical ability is really only two things based on the logic of you editors: vocals and guitar. Bono should merely be lead vocals or add ONE WORD to his introduction, however much that may pain the Wikipedia community. If you actually weigh what I've said rather than simply dismiss it because you (and, admittedly, others) are obviously on a power trip, you would see where more information could be gained by the public in adding this detail of Bono's abilities. This is an online encyclopedia, correct? Then it should supply as much information as possible, especially when it comes to a section that is specifically made to describe each band members' abilities. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.7.241.92 (talk) 01:36, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

As I've said, I'm not willing to continue the discussion here. If you insist on continuing it, please go to Talk:U2#Continuing debate where other editors apart from myself shall involve themselves in the discussion. MelicansMatkin (talk) 02:01, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

  2. Vurtax
  3. Uh... J2?
Questions for Jéské:
  1. What is my least favourite U2 song?
  2. What is the name of the novel I have been writing and revising for close to seven years?
  3. What Pokemon ship do I support most?

Reception for Bulbasaur

I would love to nominate it for WP:GAC review, however, it lacks reception data. The user Barnyard animals and I have found a few diffs, thought not 100% sure if they can apply. See them here. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 22:44, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

I doubt that the sources Barnyard Animal found wwill be enough, especially given that Bulbasaur is only mentioned in passing. I haven't checked out the blogs yet, but in general blogs are not considered reliable sources, so those wouldn't work either. Have you taken a look at the Pikachu article yet? There might be some sources in there with information about Bulbasaur that you haven't found in a regular online search yet. Also, try going to places like TIME, Macleans, the New York Times, etc, and search for Bulbasaur on there. MelicansMatkin (talk) 05:20, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Pokémon movie

"This is the first Pokémon film to have legendary Pokémon appear in two films in a row". This isn't speculation stupid. If you don't like me insulting you then you shouldn't have done a stupid thing. Naruto134 00:00, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

I encourage you to control your conduct towards other editors. If this is your typical manner of speaking to other people, you are in the wrong place. You are far more likely to achieve something on Wikipedia through reasoned discussion than through insults.
Dialga and Palkia have not yet been confirmed to have a part in this movie. Until that is confirmed, it remains speculation. Wikipedia is about verifiable facts, not speculation. Please see WP:CRYSTAL and WP:TRIVIA. It also appears that I am not the only editor who believes that the information should not be present in the article, as another editor removed the content shortly after you re-added it.
Please keep the drama to a minimum, and learn how Wikipedia works. MelicansMatkin (talk) 14:20, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Block notice

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 8 hours in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for violating the three-revert rule at List of Pokémon: Diamond & Pearl episodes. Please be more careful to discuss controversial changes or seek dispute resolution rather than engaging in an edit war. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below.

Stifle (talk) 08:58, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

I would contest this on the grounds that I never actually violated 3RR (the policy states that it is four or more reversions made after the initial edit in a 24-hour period, for a total of five reversions [I made four]), but since the block expired nearly four hours agoit hardly seems worth it. It is, perhaps, a little ironic that on the talk page of the article that was being edit-warred on my blocking admin suggested requesting page protection - several hours after I had actually requested it. MelicansMatkin (talk) 20:56, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
The 3RR is not an entitlement to 3 reverts/day/article; indeed, Wikipedia:Three-revert rule says that you should generally not be reverting more than necessary to fight vandalism, and that you can still be blocked for edit-warring regardless of how many times you actually reverted. -Jéské (v^_^v :L13 ½-Raichu Soulknife) 21:09, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
