Animals of Farthing Wood

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I think it would really help if you made it clear on the project page whether we're talking about a fictional location, a real place, some work named Farthing Wood, or something else. Also, you might want to read the WP:PROJGUIDE for some pointers on how to construct an appealing project page. Badbilltucker 17:44, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Thank you very much for helping me out with that - it is my first Project, and I really appreciate the advice you gave me. MelicansMatkin

Persocom wife?

Let's do a little exercise. Imagine you are Mr. Ueda, and you are introducing Yumi(com) to a group of people. What would you say?

1. "This is my persocom wife, Yumi."

Or:

2. "This is my persocom, and wife, Yumi."

What sounds more proper for speech? Would Mr. Ueda ever refer to Yumi as his "Persocom wife"? Wouldn't he take offense that someone was placing extra emphasis on the fact that she's a persocom, when that has nothing to do with the reason he fell in love with her in the first place? Wouldn't you? She isn't just your wife, who also happens to be a persocom, she's your persocom wife. This carries a subtle hint of offensiveness, almost, in a way, insinuating that she is some kind of stepford wife-esque creation; a persocom designed to be a wife. Saying "Persocom, and wife" also serves to show that she fufills two seperate functions; that she is a persocom, doing Ueda's math and helping in his store, and also his wife, somebody he has fallen in love with and married.

This is why I have chosen the wording I have.PiccoloNamek 23:18, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

My point is that the way it is worded is grammatically incorrect for the picture, and also Mr. Ueda is not introducing his wife to us. The caption is not speech, it is a description. At the very least the first comma needs to be removed for the caption to make sense with the picture. It's simple grammar. MelicansMatkin 21:18, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

I have been informed that it is not technically grammatically incorrect. It may be syntactically clunkier, but it is more correct meaning-wise than yours. Anyway, two other people have told me that something along the lines of "Hiroyasu Ueda with his wife, Yumi, a persocom." sounds better than both our choices. At any rate, "Persocom wife" is completely inappropriate and will not be accepted.PiccoloNamek 21:40, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

References

Thank you for your kind words. Chobits (the manga and anime) is something I hold very close to my heart, so I feel obligated to contribute to and refine the pages associated with it, the character page in particular, as that is naturally where all of the details will be revealed. I have been working on that page for a very long time, and I brought it from a barebones near-stub to what it is today basically by myself. I added almost all of the current content and took all of the pictures. Many of the people who try to edit on the article either don't know anything about Chobits, or can barely speak english, or both, so please forgive me for being somewhat protective of it. I try to suppress this instinct because it against the spirit of Wikipedia, and unfair to legitimate editors, but I'm not perfect...

As for the references themselves, I plan on adding what is probably a lot more than we need, and then culling all of the unnecessary or redundant ones. I could use some help with that part. I'm at a difficulty at the moment, though. While I have read the entire manga series, I do not actually own books five, six, and seven. A friend said that he would buy them for me for Christmas, but, alas, he is having trouble finding them where he lives. In the meantime, I'll try adding some references from the anime. These are needed because of the fairly drastic (IMO) differences between the anime and manga, which I am trying to cover in the article.

My current goal is to get the characters page listed as a good article. I hope that we can work together to achieve this goal. The references will certainly help.PiccoloNamek 04:18, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Your removal of the link to The Flying Dutchman on the page for Davy Jones

I would like to know why you removed the link to the Flying Dutchman. The link that I added was to the ship that the Pirates of the Caribbean was modelled on that Vanderdecken captained, and not the ship actually in the series. The link is relevant considering how many times the Flying Dutchman is mentioned in the article. MelicansMatkin 20:37, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

As per your query

I removed the link to the Flying Dutchman article because the character Davy Jones had very little to do with the namesake of the ship he captained in the film. A link to the real Flying Dutchman is relevant in the article for the film Dutchman, but in the Davy Jones article it is too much of a stretch, considering how little they have to do with each other. Hence, I removed it on the grounds of irrelevance and triviality. Thank you. Dac 21:21, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Unsure of how to report a vandal (to Viridae)

An anonymous user under the IP address of User:74.109.244.5 has vandalized many pages [[1]], despite several warnings on the talk page. I am unsure of how to report this vandal, and knowing that you are an administrator I thought that I should let you know about this user. MelicansMatkin 00:25, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Well I can't see any recent vandalism (ie in the last few hours), however if you do find someone vandalising in the future, give them a warning using one of these templates (starting with the level one and moving through to level 4 as appropriate). Then if they continue after the level 4 warning, report them to WP:AIV. For more information see Wikipedia:Vandalism. ViridaeTalk 00:30, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Aofwtemplate2.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Aofwtemplate2.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. — Rebelguys2 talk 04:57, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

This might sound a little off-putting or blunt, but I certainly don't mean it that way. The problem is that Wikipedia only allows fair use images in articles — not anywhere else, whether in templates, Wikiprojects, userboxes, and the like. You should also realize that our fair use policy is much more restrictive than any possible theoretical interpretations of U.S. fair use law. As a result, we restrict fair use images to the mainspace. — Rebelguys2 talk 19:10, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
That seems very fair. Thank you for the clarification :) MelicansMatkin 19:14, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

AoFW Userbox (to Jennisuk)

I hope you don't mind, but I changed the image of the Animals of Farthing Wood in your userbox. The reason is because the first image (Aofwtemplate2.jpg‎) is now an orphaned image, and is due to be deleted in the next 7 days. So I uploaded the image again under a different name (Aofwtemplate3.jpg‎) and under a different license that still applies to the image, and which should prevent it from becoming orphaned once again. Just a heads up on why I changed it :) MelicansMatkin 19:36, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Unblock request made by User:74.109.244.5

If I may interject, I would like to point out that I also currently go to the school in question, and that I know Jamal Aburaneh's brother. I can tell you quite accurately that Jamal Aburaneh is not on "Little Mosque on the Prarie". Also, looking back at edits made several weeks ago it seems clear from the numerous page blankings (also replacing pages with "cock" and "nigger") that more than just The Animals of Farthing Wood was deliberately vandalized. I apologize if this is not my place to point this out, but I think it is important to be said. MelicansMatkin 13:20, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

You may not interject. This is my page. If you feel you have anything pertinent to say, add it to your own page. Otherwise, I may be obligated to add my own thoughts to your page. Thanks
Please, feel free to add comments. That is the purpose of the talk page, as long as no "attacks" are made when comments are posted. Talk pages are there for discussion, not just for templates and administrator intervention. If you wish to discuss this matter, then I will be more than happy to on either my talk page or yours.MelicansMatkin 19:43, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Actually, this page doesn't belong to you because it's a talk page for the communicating with other users and because you're also unregistered meaning this page is for tracking edits made by anyone on this IP address and is not tied to your identity. See Wikipedia:Why create an account? for further details. --  Netsnipe  ►  06:59, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Incorrect. This is my page. I paid for it. You don't know me, I do what I want.

Nobody pays. Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia. MelicansMatkin 14:42, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Wrong again. Where do you think the advertising money goes???
Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia. If you had to pay, then you were seriously ripped off, especially since an IP address is useable by potentially many people (such as in the situation of a school). Creating an account and using it is free. I should know; I have one. MelicansMatkin 20:33, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

If you want your own userpage, create an account. --  Netsnipe  ►  18:50, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia in general

Honestly, you take this too seriously. It's just the fucking internet you twats. Getting all annoyed and faffing on with blocking and reverting edits and the like. Maintaining Wikipedia is a fucking joke.

Wikipedia can be a reliable source. People work really hard to make it so. MelicansMatkin 03:17, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Problem with IP 74.109.244.5 and new account (To Admins)

I'm sure you remember vandalism trouble with this user, and it seems to have gotten much worse. They appear to hold a grudge against me because of my frequent reverts of their vandalism to Southwood Secondary School, and reporting them because of this vandalism. This user has indeed created an account in a parody of my own, with only one letter being different. You can compare my User Page with their own here. I realize that this may not be against the rules, but with this account that is so similar to my own they have continued to vandalize SSS, as seen in this edit, which I have since reverted.

I just want information on Wikipedia to be accurate, and since you were able to deal with this user last time, I thought it best to bring to your attention what has transpired. MelicansMatkin 03:14, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Actually, it's against the Wikipedia:Username policy for someone to register a username similar or parodying that of an established editor. In future, please report all impostors to WP:AIV and they will be blocked on sight. Thanks. --  Netsnipe  ►  03:12, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the help, and the clarification. :) I'll be sure to do that in future. MelicansMatkin 03:20, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Looks like someone beat me to it. Nobody is permitted to impersonate your user account here. I'm sorry you had to go through that. Happy editing, let me know if things turn sour again. --Yamla 03:21, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks very much for your quick response. It was certainly a shock to see that happen. I'll be sure to drop you a line if that user creates any more trouble for me, or any other editors. Once again thanks, to both you and Netsnipe MelicansMatkin 03:24, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
It seems that this users IP block has expired - he immediately began to vandalize every page listed on my User Page that I have worked on/created, and also vandalized my user page. Thanks to revisions by Zarius and Raven4x4x, all of the vandalism that I know of has been fixed, but the user seems to once again be free on Wikipedia. MelicansMatkin 14:00, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Reblocked, this time for six months due to the immaturity evidenced by this user's edits. --Yamla 14:24, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you once again for your help! MelicansMatkin 14:29, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
