Talk:Melissopalynology
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Melisso = (Greek) honey-bee and palynology = study of pollen, so melissopalynology should be something like the study of pollen associated with the honeybee. Not the study of "honey" as on the article page?? Gary
[edit] melissopalynology
Hello Gary,
The honeybee is known under its latin name of Apis mellifera I think mellifera means `bringer of honey`. From that i confer that mellos or something like that is Greek for honey. What happened to the double `L` and the quite strange coupling of the words by adding ´isso` i do not know. The aim of melissopalynology is to determine the species and amount of pollen in honey. It has nothing to do with other properties of honey. I think there is a lot more to tell about this topic. If i have time i want to add some things.
