Melling Chase
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Melling Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt chase in the United Kingdom for five-year-old and above horses. It is run over a distance of 2 miles 4 furlongs (4,023 metres) at Aintree Racecourse during the Grand National meeting in early April. There are sixteen fences to be jumped in the race.
It was first run in 1991, and is often contested by horses which ran previously in the Queen Mother Champion Chase. Five winners of the Queen Mother Champion Chase have gone on to win the Melling Chase in the same season: Remittance Man, Deep Sensation, Viking Flagship (1995), Martha's Son and Moscow Flyer (2005).
