Melitón Carvajal

Manuel Melitón Carvajal Ambulodegui (March 10, 1847–September 19, 1935)) was born in Lima to Francisco Carvajal and Maria del Pilar Ambulodegui of Carvajal. He was a pupil of the school Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. In 1860 he entered the Naval Military School as a cadet, eventually rising to become a high-level naval officer and war hero. In 1884 he succeeded Carlos Paz Soldán as director of the Telegraphy Service but soon (1895) returned to Naval duty. In 1888 he accepted the position of treasurer with Peru's new military/political combine, the Centro Militar del Perú. He became its second vice-president in 1889, and director of the Centro’s periodical in 1893. He was also involved in Peruvian politics. Carvajal died in Lima.
