Melissa Wiley is a pen name for Melissa Anne Peterson (born December 17, 1968). She is the author of two book series about Laura Ingalls Wilder's ancestors, the Martha Years and the Charlotte Years. She resides in San Diego, CA with her husband, Scott, and five children. Her one son (born December 9, 2003) suffers from hearing loss. Her daughter, Kate, (born June 7, 1995) had leukemia, but recovered. She is a stay-at-home mom and homeschools her children. She chose to stop writing the Little House books because of Harper Collins' decision to abridge all the little house books, except the originals.
