From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Buni Meldware Communication Suite is an open source messaging and collaborative software product developed by Buni.org. Meldware Communication Suite is a relatively new project which uses the Java language and Virtual Machine to support its core implementation. The project envisions ease of installation and configuration as a core goal in addition to executing on multiple platforms and utilizing multiple databases. Meldware Communication Suite consists of: Meldware Mail, Meldware Webmail and Meldware Calendar Server. Originally Meldware Communication Suite was named JBoss Collaboration Server/JBoss Mail Server, but moved to Buni.org in late 2006.
[edit] Capabilities
The present release version of Meldware Communication Suite is 1.0 Milestone 8 (Mid 2007). As of this release it supports the IMAP, POP and SMTP protocols with a wide range of security and routing settings. It includes a calendar server which supports both iCalendar and WCAP protocols (which allows scheduling/integration with Mozilla's Thunderbird/Lightning and Evolution). One of the project goals is to allow "Mail-Based Applications" through user extensibility. Much of the core server is implemented using these extension points based on JBoss Application Server's extended version of JMX MBeans and Java classes conforming to Meldware Mail Server's MailListener interface.
