Melanopsidae is a family of gastropod molluscs of the Sorbeoconcha (formerly Mesogastropoda) order.
They first appeared in the Late Cretaceous, and are closely related to Potamididae. Alongside unidirectional evolutionary change from one to the next species through time the process of hybridization plays a major role in the appearance of new species. [1]
