Mel Tottoh (born 16 July 1956) is a former footballer. Tottoh is famous to football fans for playing just one game for Preston North End against Scunthorpe United on November 5, 1985. He was born in Manchester, England.
As one of the leading local parks players in the Preston area, Tottoh was called upon to take his place on the bench due to injuries to much of Preston's squad. Because the floodlights at Preston's Deepdale stadium had been condemned as unsafe, the game was to kick-off at 2pm on the Tuesday afternoon. Tottoh therefore had to finish his shift early at BAE Preston. The 2pm kickoff, unheard of in those days, was the reason only 2007 supporters turned up for the game, making it Preston North End's lowest ever league gate, a record that still stands to this day. Having come on as a substitute Tottoh made little impact with Preston losing 1-0 to Scunthorpe United. Mel never again wore the famous white jersey of Preston North End; he went on to play for Accrington Stanley.
He is now a leading management consultant.
