The name Mekryd has its roots in roleplaying characters and video games. Once upon a time, Mekryd had played as a character under the name of Matthias Keyte. One day, he found himself in need of a new e-mail account, and decided to take the initials from that character, and attach them to the name of Ryudo, the main character of one his favourite video games at the time, and three numbers which held but little importance to him, forming "MKRyudo281".

One day, little MKR was stuck on finding a name for another character. For this, he looked to his e-mail, and began to try to say it aloud:

1. EmKayRyudo
2. Mekryudo
3. Mekryud
4. Mekryd

Thus was the name of Mekryd created.
