Mekong Plus

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mekong Plus was founded in 1994 (named Viêt Nam Plus in France). It operates in Cambodia and Southern Vietnam. The focus is on poor rural areas. The goal is community development. 3 key principles guide its action:

  • priority to work with the poorest (income of around 80 euro/year)
  • the participation of all
  • low cost actions and sustainability.

In Vietnam Mekong Plus works closely with a recently set up local NGO named Thiên Chí, meaning "Good will". In Cambodia it works with PTEA,CFED, 2 Cambodian NGOs.

The programs are based in relatively poor and remote areas. They include agriculture extension, training of village technicians, micro credit, education and health, action theatre, generation of employment etc.

Mekong Plus believes it is very important to share information and stories from the field, so that people in the West could better understand the issues, and see which actions are the most effective to reduce poverty. The 2 websites contain a large number of documents, evaluation reports, long or shorter videos etc. in French and English (Mekong Plus), in English and Vietnamese (Thiên Chí).
