Mekatilili Wa Menza

Mekatilili Wa Menza was a Kenyan Woman warrior, who led the Giriama people in a rebellion against British missionaries in 1914. Giriama people, who inhabit Kenyan coast, had Kayas, sacred forest shrines, which were being destroyed by the missionaries.
She was captured and exiled to Mumias in Western Province of Kenya. Five years later, she returned to her native area.
