The Minnetonka Cave is that largest commercially developed limestone rock cave in the state of Idaho, and one of the highest, with an entrance elevation of 7,700 feet, 2,000 foot long limestone cave. This cave is famous for various speleothems, like stalactites, stalagmites, soda straws, cave bacon and the rare helictites as well fossils of tropical plants and marine life. The developed part of the cave contains nine separate “rooms” or chambers. The largest of these chambers is called the Ballroom, measuring more than 300 feet across 90 feet high. The tour path crosses nine chambers and includes 896 stairs.

A grouse hunter tripped into this cave in 1907. It has been opened to the public since 1947. The U.S. Forest Service offers a tour through this wondrous half-mile of beautiful stalactites and stalagmites from June 15 through Labor Day. This is the largest developed limestone cave in Idaho. There is no handicap access, and the site tour does include climbing stairs. This tour is not recommended by people with heart disease. Cost is 2.50. Take 65-70 minutes.
