The Mejoranera is similar to a guitar but is slightly smaller and has a shorter neck. The instrument takes five strings which originally were crafted from dry fibers of Bejuco, horse hairs, later of guts, and at the present time of nylon. The wood used to construct the Mejoranera is cedar. It is used for accompaniment of the singers and "trovadores vernaculares".
