Mejia (Bengali: মেজিয়া) is a town and a community development block in the sadar subdivision of Bankura District in West Bengal, India. It is on NH 60 connecting Raniganj with Midnapore via Bankura and Bishnupur. There is a bridge on the Damodar River. [1] It is 35 km from Durgapur.

The primarily agricultural region started changing with the mining of coal by Eastern Coalfields Limited in the region. It is now an important coal mining area of Coal India Limited. [1] In 1996 Mejia Thermal Power Station was set up by Damodar Valley Corporation at Durlavpur. It has three units of 210 MW each. Capacity addition of 2 X 250 MW has been planned. [2] La Farge is setting up a cement plant at Mejia. [3] It would use the fly ash generated by the thermal power plant. [4] There are other units such as Shova Ispat which is investing Rs 279 crore (Rs 2.79 billion) in a sponge iron, roll product and ferro alloy unit in Mejia. [5]

The Government of West Bengal along with District Administration have selected few blocks of Bankura District as the most promising areas for setting up big & medium scale Industries. Mejia is one of them. [6]
