Mehmet Emin Hazret

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mehmet Emin Hazret (alias: Aizilaiti) has led the East Turkestan Liberation Organization, a militant, separatist, and Islamic organization that operates in Xinjiang, People's Republic of China and Central Asia, since 1989.[1]

Hazret worked as a screenwriter for the Xinjiang Tianshan Film Studio before heading the ETLO. In 1998 he ordered Hamid Mehmetjan, an Egyptian ETLO member, to go to China to recruit members, receive a delivery of weapons on 6 April, and to compile a list of targets for assassination and bombings in Xinjiang. Police and ETLO members exchanged gunfire on 24 April 1998. Members later stated during interrogation that they were trained at camps in Afghanistan.[1]
