Mehmed Alagić

Mehmed Alagić (born July 8th, 1947 in Fajtovci, Sanski Most, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the SFRY) was a general in the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

[edit] Military History

Mehmed was a commissioned officer in JNA. After he graduated the military academy in Banja Luka in 1970, then he was put as the commander of the military academy, also in Banja Luka, for military officers. In 1986, after finishing the military academy for officers of the higher command school, he was put in command of the 36. mechanized brigade. In 1989, he was put as commander of the brigades in Zrenjanina, which was from the Novosad Corps.

He left the JNA in February of 1991. Then on December 13th, 1993 he served in the 17th Krajina Brigade of the 3rd Corps. On March 8th, 1993. from the command of the 3rd Corps he was put as commander of the Operational Group(OG) "Bosnian Krajina" from the 3rd Corps. He became commander of the 3rd Corps on November 1st, 1993. The on February 26th, 1994, the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina high command established the 7th Corps and Mehmed was put as commander.

In March 1996, as a member of the SDA party, he was elected as the governor of the Sanski Most region and in September as a zastupnik of the dome of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The later the high representative took him of as governor of the Sanski Most region.
