Mehl-Mülhens-Rennen

The Mehl-Mülhens-Rennen, sometimes referred to as the German 2,000 Guineas, is a Group 2 flat horse race in Germany open to three-year-old thoroughbreds (excluding geldings). It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (approximately 1 mile) at Weidenpesch Racecourse, Cologne and takes place annually in May.

It was first run in 1871 at Hoppegarten as the Henckel-Rennen, and was initially run over 2,000 metres (1¼ miles) until the present distance was set in 1904. With the exception of 1918 to 1922, when it took place at Grunewald, the race remained at its original venue until 1944. Its next long-term home was at Gelsenkirchen, where it was run from 1950 to 1985.

The race is the German equivalent of the English 2,000 Guineas and has held Group 2 status since 1972. It was given its present title when it arrived at Cologne in 1986.
