Created in 2002? I could swear a roommate in college had issues of Megaton Man, which for me was 1986-1990...

as seen on [page], Megaton Man dates back to 1984.

Is there any chance of cutting this down to size a bit? It's quite long, so perhaps there could be another page, say "Alternate versions of Megaton Man", perhaps?

[edit] This crazy gizmo really works

This description sounds awfully straight for a hero designed as a slapstick satire of Superman. No mention is even made of his colossally oversized musculature (a Simpson hallmark) or his tendency to bulk up even further on the flimsiest of pretexts (such as accidently saying "Overkill!"). His amazing and/or spectacular and/or uncanny dimwittedness should probably also be emphasized. I agree that the alternate MM's (what about Captain Megaton Man?) ought to be in a separate entry, leaving more room here to maybe discuss the shift in tone the character took as Simpson explored different types of storytelling in various series. Glad to see MM appear in the Wikipedia. Woo!

[edit] Merge Alternate versions of Megaton Man

  • merge/nomination- First, there is no reason why an 11Kib page needs to have 4Kib broken off. In addition, the alt page doesn't seem to describe alternate verions of a single character, as much as different character with similar themes (Superman relations to Supergirl and Conner Kent). Both of these pages are languishing with poor editting and format. These pages need to be merged and then reconstructed. - 66.109.248.114 (talk) 00:06, 17 December 2007 (UTC).
Merged due to no response. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 01:10, 1 May 2008 (UTC).

[edit] Megatropolis Quartet

Megaton Man was never a member of the Megatropolis Quartet; neither were X-Ray Boy or Cowboy Gorilla. The Megatropolis Quartet was a Fantastic Four parody team consisting of Liquid Man (parody of Mr. Fantastic), See-Through Girl (parody of Invisible Girl/Woman and later known as Earth Mother), Yarn Man (parody of the Thing) and (if I remember correctly) the Human Meltdown (parody of the Human Torch). The team disbanded after very few appearances (possibly only one); reportedly Marvel Comics considered the Quartet an infringement upon its Fantastic Four copyrights/trademarks and sent out a cease and desist notice. Simpson completely dropped his Spider-Man parody Wall Man from the cast, but continued to feature the individual members of the Megatropolis Quartet in Megaton Man and his later projects, just not as a group, which apparently was enough to keep Marvel's attorneys off his back. I believe the in-story reason for the disbanding was Liquid Man's discovery of his wife See-Through Girl's extramartial affair with Megaton Man, but it's been a while since I read those stories and I might be misremembering.
