Megion (Russian: Мегион) is a town in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Russia. It is located at the altitude of 45 meters (148 ft) below sea level, on the right bank of the Ob River, 380 kilometers (236 mi) east of Khanty-Mansiysk and 760 kilometers (472 mi) north-east of Tyumen. The area of the town is is 50.51 square kilometers (19.5 sq mi) and the nearest airport is in Nizhnevartovsk 30 kilometers (19 mi) away.

Population: 51,600 (2007 est.);[citation needed] 46,566 (2002 Census);[1] 39,783 (1989 Census).[2]

It was first mentioned in 1810. In 1961, the first oil in Western Siberia was struck there. Now it is a center of the oil and natural gas industries.
