Fair use is claimed on the basis that low resolution (useless for reproduction in print) images of book covers are usually considered fair use, and serves the promotion of the book. The illustrations in the Animorphs books were a part of the front cover, and serve for the promotion of the artist. The illustrations also represented a key plot moment in the books and serve to describe the story and characters.
