RogueNinja (talk ยท contribs) I would like to become more active in non-editing duties in Wikipedia. I have concentrated my edits mostly on Martial Arts, along with some science and medicine articles. I recently (this morning) asked for a mediation, which is how I discovered that this is not a sub-committee of ArbCom. I understand completely if you would like me to have more edits on more articles, but I feel that I have enough wiki experience to help mediate disputes. RogueNinja 02:42, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Mediation committee:
Abstain, as I am currently mediating a dispute which involves you as a representative of this Committee and it would be inproper for me to vote either way. However,(Changing to weak oppose, purely because you have no prior experience in mediating, which is a requirement to get my support in 95% of cases (including this one). Daniel Bryant 23:07, 31 March 2007 (UTC)); although you seem like an able candidate in the future, the Mediation Committee is the final level of Mediation (voluntary resolution, prior to forced arbitration), and I suspect most MC members will oppose you because you have not had any experience in helping out with solving disputes at a "lower" level (eg. WP:MEDCAB, WP:AMA, WP:3O). The MedCom tends to deal with the disputes that aren't suited to these places, primarily because they deal with more difficult issues. Can I make a friendly suggestion that you withdraw this, help out with the MedCab (in particular - it's where most of the MC members come from), and then if you are still interested in dealing with the high-level disputes after you've "wet your feet" in the slightly-easier ones, reapply here? Oh, by the way, although I dissent the notion, some of the Mediation Committee members would also prefer members to have been elected an administrator through community consensus; because you aren't (which is fine, in my opinion), the prior experience is probably more vital. Cheers, and I hope my guidance is helpful (as well as my mediating at Karate! :D), Daniel Bryant 08:09, 30 March 2007 (UTC)- PS: The MedCom isn't a subcommittee of ArbCom, by the way; although it is the next level down the dispute resolution chain, we have no formal ties to them whatsoever. Just a handy note :) Daniel Bryant 08:10, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- I realize that, but until I actually looked at mediation, I did not know that. If I am rejected, I guess I will try my hand at the lower levels of mediation first I guess. RogueNinja 06:06, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

- Weak oppose - I agree with Daniel that it would be great for you to get more dispute resolution experience before joining MedCom. Take a look at WP:30, WP:ASSIST, WP:AMA and WP:MEDCAB - good luck :) Martinp23 16:35, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Comments:
- I dont mean to be rude, but from what ive seen in the archives, most nominations dont take quite so long. Am I expected to canvass the medcom members? RogueNinjatalk 15:11, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
- Normally mediation nominations last one month. I'll ping the MedCom mailing list, anyways. Cheers, Daniel Bryant 05:46, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
