[edit] Keilana
Keilana (talk · contribs) Hello, I'm Keilana. Some of you may not know me, so here's a little background. I first joined the project in April 2007, became an administrator in November 2007, and was reconfirmed as an administrator in January 2008. As for why I am interested in joining the Mediation Committee, I have a strong interest in dispute resolution, often following Arbitration Committee and Request for Comment proceedings. That being said, I've mediated several cases for the informal mediation cabal; at least one case was caused by abusive sockpuppetry and ended in blocks, another is in Arbitration. I feel that I have a calm enough temperament to deal with disputes, and enough experience to be able to defuse situations calmly. I have no problems if this nomination is declined, you all do a wonderful job and I hope to work with you in the future. Best, Keilana|Parlez ici 03:22, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Questions from Committee members:
- What are the core principles of Mediation Committee mediation?
- Mediation should be voluntary. If people are forced to participate in mediation, the results will be much less successful than those of the cases in which every participant is willing to participate, especially if a positive outcome is desired by all parties going into mediation.
- Mediators should be completely and utterly neutral. If they have any conflict of interest whatsoever, their mediation will be biased, possibly causing escalation of the dispute and/or an ineffective result.
- Discussions during formal mediation are privileged; they cannot be used against the parties in later proceedings (e.g. RfArb/RfC). Why is that important?
- This is important because open communication between the parties involved in the dispute is paramount to solving the problem. If an editor fears that their comments in Mediation will be used against them, then they will likely either not accept mediation or not work towards a compromise, making Mediation ineffective.
- What prior experience do you have in resolving disputes on Wikipedia? Please provide links, and how will these experiences help you to be an effective Committee member?
- I have informally mediated several cases with the mediation cabal, along with daily issues coming up as an admin. These cases included mediation on White people(talk), an ongoing case, Extraordinary rendition (rejected), and WikiProject U.S. Roads (rejected, currently in Arbitration). In addition, I periodically provide third opinions, and (rarely) provide evidence in Arbitration proceedings and comment on RFCs. You may also find "garden-variety" dispute resolution on my talk page and its archives.
Mediation Committee:
- Note: Committee, please see the mailing list. There's a link to a discussion and a short explanation there which, out of courtesy for the candidate's inferred wishes, can't be posted here. By the way, preliminary stuff looks good, although I want to have a closer look tomorrow before voting. Thanks, Daniel (talk) 05:11, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
- Support. Having reviewed Keilana's efforts at the Sun tanning Mediation, which is now on the route to a successful closure, her obvious understanding of the Mediation policy and this Committee's operations, and her general clue levels, I feel confident that this editor will be an addition to the MedCom that will both be fruitful to the parties that come to us for conflict resolution, and beneficial to the Committee as a whole. Best of luck, Keilana. AGK (contact) 21:21, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- Support. Both Keilana's efforts on the Sun tanning mediation and other work informally show that she has a good grasp of how to resolve disputes and a good head on her shoulders. Shell babelfish 11:38, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
- Support: I am especially fond of Keilana's efforts at the Sun tanning mediation and elsewhere, and it clearly shows that she has experience in handing disputes. I endorse her request to become a mediator and I believe she will be much welcomed. seicer | talk | contribs 13:59, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Community opinions:
- I endorse this request, as I believe that Keilana is a model candidate for the positions that she is requesting. Whether the issue discussed here is a problem I will leave for others to decide, however, even in light of these issues, should they turn out to cause concern, I still give her my fullest and uncompromising support. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 08:01, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- I strongly support this request also. I'm fairly certain the issue being privately discussed is that other thing I was involved in, and fully endorse K do an excellent job regardless. dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 11:08, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- Endorse this request, have always seen good calm discussions take place when she steps in. Tiptoety talk 01:08, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Discussion and comments:
- Comment—Keilana, would you be interested in taking a currently unassigned RfM, in order to demonstrate your ability to Mediate under a formal atmosphere? Anthøny 11:52, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
- Hello Anthony, I would be happy to. I'm a mite busy IRL right now, would you mind if I waited a couple of hours? Best, Keilana|Parlez ici 18:22, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
- I have accepted the case on Sun tanning, located here and here. Thank you. Keilana|Parlez ici 19:08, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
- That's great ;) I look forward to observing your efforts there. I will refrain from casting my vote on your nomination until you close that Mediation. In the meanwhile, best of luck! Anthøny 20:11, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
