[edit] Daniel
Daniel (talk · contribs) I frequently contribute to administrator noticeboards, attempting to mediate conflict and calm down temper-driven editors. I have mediated a number of informal disputes, as well as one official case for the MEDCAB, which was conducted on a user subpage of mine, due to the complex and hostile nature of the disputes. Danny and Brad eventually took over the case when things got very bleak with legal threats between parties, however the former commended me on my efforts in mediating the case over IRC, which I found extremely humbling, coming from a WMF employee. On regards to editing experience on Wikipedia, I have near-enough to 10,000 edits as of 02:44, 5 November 2006 (UTC) 16,500 edits as of 23:26, 3 February 2007 (UTC), including something like 1500+4,500-odd to Wikipedia-space, as well as 3000-odd4,500-odd to the user talk namespace, indicating my willingness to communicate with users, which is a fundamental part of the mediation process. In real life, I am an Australian rules football umpire, which lends itself to making decisions and acting a way to promote harmony from a heated situation. Comments:
- Though I haven't reviewed the mediation case you cited above, I would gladly support, but I'm hesitant in doing so because you're currently a candidate for the December ArbCom elections (which I am as well.) Now, please don't misunderstand me - I would strongly support you in either position - but I just don't feel comfortable supporting this request, which was made after your candidacy in the ArbCom elections was announced, given the fact that you have a very plausible chance of joining the ArbCom in a few weeks' time, effectively removing you from being an active mediator. Thus, I would suggest to you to re-apply here following the conclusion of the ArbCom elections, if you are not elected, and I would be more than happy to support you. In the meantime, though, could I suggest that you take on another case? This would allow you to gain more experience, would help us with our backlog, and would also allow us to evaluate your mediation further. Thanks for your understanding, and best of luck! - OK, that sounds reasonable. I've added the boxes around it (from RfA), so if you could get the MC Bot to remove it through whatever the process is from the pending nominations section, that'd be great. Cheers, Daniel.Bryant [ T · C ] 05:16, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
- I am reopening this because all major events for me - RfA and AC elections - have concluded. I now wish to proceed to help out the MC in a more formal role. As a note, Q3 and Q6 - the end of Q3 most importantly - may be of interest here. Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 23:22, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- Promoted. I'm going ahead and promoting this one, as there has been great support since the reopening, and because there was due consideration prior to the candidate placing his nomination in abeyance in November. Essjay (Talk) 06:48, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
