[edit] Request Information

Request made by: Bushing 03:28, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Where is the issue taking place?
AVR Butterfly
Who's involved?
Bushing, Egil, Rhenn83
What's going on?
A while back, I also spent several days expanding the article only to find that Egil had dumped the entire thing by reverting back to a small stump. I would like to encourage everyone to expand and refine the article without REMOVING anything. I don't suppose there is anyway to keep Egil, Rhenn83 and their ilk from destroying our work?
What's going on?
A while back, I took a stub article (above) that I knew something about, and put some time into fleshing it out. (edits). Two days later, Egil deleted all of the links I had added (without moving them to the talk page :() and added the NPOV/Advert tag to the page.
Since then, there have been a few assorted edits, many of which were just restoring bits and pieces of what Egil removed. The Advert tag came off, Egil put it back on ... Someone came and added the importance tag.
The device in question is popular with hobbyists; its relevance is that many people have taken this humble device and modified it to do impressive things. That was shown in the links; without them, I guess it is hard to see the importance. (FWIW, I think that the article WRT54G is similar in content, importance and tone to AVR Butterfly, yet it has not had the same problems.)
I have tried to engage Egil (both on User talk:Egil and talk:AVR Butterfly) to help me understand why he objects to the page; his responses have been vague.
What would you like to change about that?
Ideally, I'd like to put the page back the way I had it -- I put thought into my edits and do not understand Egil's reason for deleting them. I've tried to seek clarification from him with little luck. A couple other users have expressed support for the article the way it was (see talk page, and partial reverts of Egil's deletion). In other circumstances I would probably go ahead and revert the page back, but Egil is a Wikipedia admin, so I assume he must have had good reason for doing what he did.
To be clear -- although I stand by my original edits, I wouldn't mind reworking the article in response to constructive criticism. However, without meaningful input from Egil, I'm flailing around in the dark.
Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?
No; I'd prefer to work this out openly. Thanks!

[edit] Compromise offers

This section is for listing and discussing compromise offers.

How about Egil (and friends) refrain from editing both the "Atmel AVR" and the "AVR Butterfly" articles altogether and contain their comments regarding future edits to the "talk" pages.

That way the rest of us can build-up the article rather than having it repeatedly torn down, but if an error is made Egil (and friends) can make note of it for all to see.

[edit] Discussion

While using the talk page of the article in question to solve a dispute is encouraged to involve a larger audience, feel free to discuss the case below if that is not possible. Other mediators are also encouraged to join in on the discussion as Wikipedia is based on consensus.
