[edit] Request Information

Request made by: HiramShadraski 21:14, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Where is the issue taking place?
Revert war at Filibuster (military)
Who's involved?
User:HiramShadraski and User:Doughface
What's going on?
Doughface inserts links to Republic of Texas and El Plan Espiritual de Aztlán in the "See Also" section. HiramShadraski objects, and claims that the former is only peripherally related to the topic and the latter not at all. HiramShadraski believes inclusion of these links is a political statement and violation of NPOV policy.
What would you like to change about that?
Removal of the two irrelevant and off-topic links from the "See Also" section.
Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?
Discreet or not, I don't care. Talk page or other venue is acceptable.

[edit] Discussion

While using the talk page of the article in question to solve a dispute is encouraged to involve a larger audience, feel free to discuss the case below if that is not possible. Other mediators are also encouraged to join in on the discussion as Wikipedia is based on consensus.

Although some prominent figures in the Texas Revolution and Republic had some ties to filibustering interests, the history of that struggle is really one of legitimate - that is, Mexican-approved - colonists (both Anglo and Hispanic) of Coahuila y Tejas becoming dissatisfied with the changes imposed by Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, and revolting. A great deal of help came to the rebels from interests in the United States, but as the motiviation was internal dissatisfaction rather than external plunder and conquest I don't think the Republic of Texas link belongs here. Note that the WP entry, in particular, does not discuss filibustering at all.

The link to El Plan Espiritual de Aztlán is even more clearly inappropriate. This is a modern political movement based on the desire for something like a cultural reconquest of the Southwestern United States, but certainly by other-than-military means.

Doughface, do you have anything to add? Stifle (talk) 22:05, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately, mediation cases cannot proceed if not all disputants are willing to participate. I am closing this case as unresolved; I apologize that it has not worked out. Stifle (talk) 20:15, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
