[edit] Request Information

Request made by: Bidofthis
Where is the issue taking place?

EBay

Who's involved?

Zoe and Bidofthis (User talk:24.45.11.153.)

What's going on?

Zoe removing link to Auctionbytes from EBay wiki. user Zoe states Auctionbytes is not relevant to EBay wiki and threatens to ban me from posting.

What would you like to change about that?

Prevent user Zoe from removing relevant external link to http://www.auctionbytes.com on the EBay wiki. Permit me to add link to Auctionbytes on EBay wiki.

Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?

No.

[edit] Mediator response

I am taking up this case. Stifle (talk) 09:59, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

The relevant section of the external link guide would suggest that the link not be included on eBay's external link section. I would note that a link there already appears as reference #6. Stifle (talk) 10:03, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

By way of reminder, the Mediation Cabal cannot issue binding rulings. Stifle (talk) 10:10, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Compromise offers

This section is for listing and discussing compromise offers.

There is already a link to auctionbytes.com in the references section of eBay, I recommend leaving this link, but adding a link in the "further reading" section does not seem to be contemplated by WP:EL.
I also remind users to be nice. :) Stifle (talk) 10:06, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
The website seems to be a dedicated datacenter for ebay news and stuff, I think leaving it in the references section in best. It's not really further reading. --mboverload@ 10:15, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion

While using the talk page of the article in question to solve a dispute is encouraged to involve a larger audience, feel free to discuss the case below if that is not possible. Other mediators are also encouraged to join in on the discussion as Wikipedia is based on consensus.

I removed the link because it seems to violate WP:External links, but the anonymous editor who seems to have now chosen a name was unhappy, and inserted it again. When I requested that he review WP:External links, he instead became defensive and would not discuss the quality of the link. User:Zoe|(talk) 23:47, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
I agree. As the IP user has not returned to address his position, I consider this case to be closed. If you wish me to revisit anything, please leave a message on my talk page as otherwise I will not be checking back here. Stifle (talk) 11:51, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mediator's recommendation

The external link to auctionbytes should appear in references only. Stifle (talk) 11:51, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
