[edit] Request Information

Request made by: Nrtm81 07:29, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Where is the issue taking place?
Portal:Taiwan
Who's involved?
User:Nrtm81 and User:Chiang Kai-shek
What's going on?
Dispute over the naming of the Wiki Portal Portal:Taiwan vs. Portal:Republic of China. The portal is meant to be geographic in nature to introduce the history of the island of Taiwan (such as the different people that inhabit it, their culture, history including rule under the Dutch, Ming, Qing, Japan, and Republic of China.
Some users, at the moment User:Chiang Kai-shek wants the portal to be Portal:Republic of China to change it from a geographic portal to a political portal (i.e. The island of Taiwan is a legitimate nation recognized as the Republic of China. See Portal talk:Republic of China for the reasons why ROC portal would be problematic. I have tried to reason with the user on his/her talk page User talk:Chiang Kai-shek. I even suggested he contact Wikipedia:Resolving disputes if he doesn't agree. Instead he just continues to revert the portal so now I am calling for help from a mediator to determine a solution to this dispute.
What would you like to change about that?
I would like the mediator to determine the naming of the portal. The final decision should be made known and made final to avoid future disputes over Taiwan (geographical) vs. Republic of China (political). There's no point moving the page here and there just because of "political" POV.
Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?
No need for discretion. If further information/clarification is needed, I'm available for contact, also User:Chiang Kai-shek. User:Nrtm81

[edit] Mediator response

I shall Mediate this case. The Halo

I hope you don't mind if I help. Ideogram 14:12, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Parties were unable to reach an agreement. User:Chiang Kai-shek repeatedly accused his opponent of having a political agenda, and, when I warned him about it, attacked me.

This mediation is now closed. Ideogram 16:00, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

I would like to add that not only did Chiang keep violating WP:CIVIL, Nrtm81 said he would except nothing other than the portal name to remain as Portal:Taiwan.
The Halo (talk) 16:05, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

One proposal that was acceptable to Nrtm81 but not Chiang Kai-shek was to have two portals, one named Portal:Taiwan and one named Portal:Republic of China. Ideogram 16:08, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Cowman has taken over. Reopening case. Ideogram 16:17, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

I believe that Cowman is a little busy at the moment, and I am now in sole charge of this case. The Halo (talk) 19:08, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

I have formed a note page going a bit farther into the subject:

I hope that this will be useful to anyone needing to review this situation. Thε Halo Θ 11:12, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
