[edit] Request Information

Request made by: Dcbiglaw 03:22, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
Where is the issue taking place?
Mail Order Bride Article
Who's involved?
Chief offender is Michaellovesnyc
What's going on?
wholesale deletion of factual material (complete with citations and reference links -- some to primary authority) merely because the facts do not suit his political bent.
I'll expand on the issue, since it was requested. The previous mediation case about mail-order bride, which I initiated, seems to have been resolved. User:Dcbiglaw, who's new but seems like a sincere contributor, initiated this mediation case about a different issue, being discussed here. Dcbiglaw added several paragraphs about court cases involving the abuse of mail-order brides. Whether these paragraphs should be included, and in what form, is currently a matter of civil discussion on the talk page.
However, User:Michaellovesnyc has been repeatedly reverting to a version without these paragraphs, although they are extensively referenced and I don't think he's discussed his reasons on the talk page. I think at this point we should bring the dispute about this user to a more official forum--I'm not sure what the next step is. Michael has been warned against vandalising Wikipedia before, but has removed these warnings from his talk page [1], and has persisted in pushing his point of view and original research on the mail-order bride article for several months. I've discussed my concerns about him here as well as here (where Gavin also mentions his concerns). Could someone read these comments and advise on the best course of action? We'd all appreciate it very much. --Grace 14:01, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
What would you like to change about that?
If you'd prefer we work discreetly, how can we reach you?
...
Would you be willing to be a mediator yourself, and accept a mediation assignment in a different case?

I would be willing

This is, following the Categorical Imperative, the idea that you might want to do
what you expect others to do. You don't have to, of course, that's why it's a question.

[edit] Mediator response

Hi there, I am Cowman109Talk from the Mediation Cabal. Is this mediation request involving the same incident in Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/2006-05-24_Mail-order_bride? If not, could you please clarify what you are asking under the "what would you like to change about that?" section and a bit more in the "What's going on?" section. Thanks. Cowman109Talk 18:11, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello again. I read through your comments and I agree that the best bet may be to see a higher form of dispute resolution and this incident may possibly involve administrator intervention. From what I understand there appears to be a revert war going on, so speaking with an administrator knowledgeable about the three revert rule may be your best bet. Looking through the administrator noticeboard for reporting 3 revert rule violations, an administrator you may want to ask might be Jareth or Yamla. From there you can see where the best direction would be. I hope that doesn't make things more confusing. Do you need anything else? Cowman109Talk 01:04, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Case closed

Due to a lack of a response and after a suggestion to see a higher form of dispute resolution, I am closing this case. Cowman109Talk 01:51, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Evidence

Please report evidence in this section with {{Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Evidence}} for misconduct and {{Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Evidence3RR}} for 3RR violations. If you need help ask a mediator or an advocate. Evidence is of limited use in mediation as the mediator has no authority. Providing some evidence may, however, be useful in making both sides act more civil.
Wikipedia:Etiquette: Although it's understandably difficult in a heated argument, if the other party is not as civil as you'd like them to be, make sure to be more civil than him or her, not less.

[edit] Compromise offers

This section is for listing and discussing compromise offers.
