[edit] Request Information

Request made by: Beginning 23:29, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Where is the issue taking place?
P.E.O. Sisterhood in particular, with Cottey College and Nevada, Missouri being affected to a lesser degree. (Also, this is my first time doing this and I got lost following links around, so hopefully this is in the right place and done the right way.)
Who's involved?
Mainly 67.160.128.226 and 151.148.192.138, with 70.175.27.248, Princess LJ, and a string of other IP-username people involved. It's too complicated to even keep track of anymore, and since I use a TTS reader, following all of the numbers is...challenging, we'll say.  :) If you look at the page histories, you'll see all of the action.
What's going on?
67.160.128.226 and 151.148.192.138 (I think those are the main ones) keep editing articles to add in information about the P.E.O. Sisterhood being a "secret society" and how their name stands for "Protect Each Other." (Not using scare-quotes; just trying to show that's what's being said.) They don't source this, and when they do, it's just from "skeptic" websites that all have the exact same information. In other words, the information doesn't seem to be the most credible. 67.160.128.226 said on the Talk:P.E.O. Sisterhood page that this is conspiracy-related censorship, but still isn't sourcing.
Aside from that, which frankly I don't care about, they all just keep reverting each other on the various pages, and they aren't responding to my attempts to calm things down. I've left comments on Princess LJ's Talk page and I've tried using the article Talk pages and my diff comments, but maybe that either hasn't been enough or hasn't been done the right way. (I'm new to this.) I watch each of those pages, and I am constantly seeing these edits. It has gotten old.
What would you like to change about that?
I would like to see the constant reverts stop. I would like them to source the controversial information, preferably using valid sources. I would like the P.E.O. secret society/secret name information to stop appearing on pages like the town page for Nevada, Missouri, where it just doesn't belong. Basically, I'd like everyone to have a big group hug and simmer down.
If you'd prefer we work discreetly, how can we reach you?
Not being a member of any secret societies, no discretion is necessary.  :) However you normally do it is fine.
Would you be willing to be a mediator yourself, and accept a mediation assignment in a different case?
This is, following the Categorical Imperative, the idea that you might want to do
what you expect others to do. You don't have to, of course, that's why it's a question.
I'm a redheaded Irish-American female. We're not traditionally known for having cool heads. I am sure you all have far more patience than I do.  ;)

[edit] Evidence

Please report evidence in this section with {{Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Evidence}} for misconduct and {{Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Evidence3RR}} for 3RR violations. If you need help ask a mediator or an advocate. Evidence is of limited use in mediation as the mediator has no authority. Providing some evidence may, however, be useful in making both sides act more civil.
Wikipedia:Etiquette: Although it's understandably difficult in a heated argument, if the other party is not as civil as you'd like them to be, make sure to be more civil than him or her, not less.

[edit] Discussion

I recently tried to get membership info on PEO from the main website. I was told you cannot contact anyone and the contact info for all members is private. I have tried to contact members I do know, and no calls have been returned. I didn't know it was secret. It is secret! Kelly,

Thank you for your inquiry about membership in P.E.O. P.E.O. is a philanthropic and educational organization interested in bringing to women increased opportunities for higher education. Our organization grows because we have a membership process by which friends introduce well-known friends and relatives to their local chapters. Perhaps you can connect with members in your area and learn more about our organization. Due to the privacy act, we are unable to release names and contact information for our members.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance and good luck on connecting with P.E.O.s in your area.

hey everybody I went to cottey college under the pretenses that were stated above- to furter the education for women. Since I went to school there, many of my family members, as well as myself have been invited to join the PEO. My mother is now a president of her local chapter. While at the school in Nevada, missouri there was nothing really that strange about the school. as least as far as consipracy theories are concerned...which personally I am always looking to uncover, thus searching this site. the point I want to make is this...I went to cottey college and graduated in 2005. There were many secret traditions, including dressing up in pass down clothing and singing old songs about sisterhood. I rarely attended these traditions, I found them a carnival, designed for social fun... if there was a consipracy, I want to know, but so far nothing...and I know the president and many of the top people at cottey college. none of which were suspicious whatsoever. just furthering the discussion and interested to know of people who were rejected into the PEO. I knew nothing of the PEO's before I went to cottey college, although I had a second cousin who went to cottey several years before me- making me a legacy. How I never knew about this, yet was still closely connected. I think they are secretive because so many men want to get into cottey. interestingly, there have been many men as presidents of the school. i have been to PEO meetings, and it is all tradition, although i have never been to the "official" meeting. basically as close as someone can get without being in the group. let the discussion continue cjlcmc@umkc.edu
